effective blogging tips

Wednesday, December 31st, 2003

Blogging has become an everyday thing for many people going online. It has become more than just a means of expressing their thoughts and feelings through writing. Some has even made blogging a way of life. Many have found ways in order to make money while blogging and their numbers continue to grow from day to day. But aside from the possibility of making money through blogging, it is important for people to know first how to write effective blogs. Just like writing, there is a good way, a bad way and an effective way to write a blog. Here are some tips that you might want to know about writing that effective blog. Think of the reader. The first thing that you should know about even before you try to write a blog is to know who your audience would be. The best way to make your blog writing effective is by knowing how to make it reach out to your audience. Try to know and determine who would eventually be reading your blog and try to cater your writing to their level and not to anyone else. Write clearly. Sometimes the most effective blog is not one that is full of interesting jargon and lots of facts. The most effective blog writing is one that people reading it can fully understand. The best way to ensure this is by writing clearly. Try to write as simple as you can and tackle ideas separately to avoid confusion. Do bother with using long sentences that may confuse or tire our readers. Stick to short and simple sentences if necessary and make sure that different ideas are taken separately in different paragraphs. Practice makes perfect. The best advice that every writer would get is that the only way to getting better is by continuously writing. Having lots of practice writing blogs would eventually hone your skill until it becomes sharper and better. There may be some mistakes and errors along the way, but it is all just part of the writing process of trying to make your blog writing more effective. Dennis Chiu .blogster.com

thesis

Tuesday, December 30th, 2003

Thesis writing is an art that one achieves after a lot of hard work and persuasion. In the coming sections we will discuss about some of the points of writing a good thesis paper. The main motive of making thesis paper is to find the answers of something still not known to others. The process to find the answers of something unknown needs to be totally scientific in nature. The process needs to be totally unbiased and as much objective as possible. Though some form of subjectivity may not be possible to avoid at the time of making the paper but the process needs to be valid, reliable and objective in nature. Some of the main stages of writing thesis papers are as follows: 1) Formulation of a hypothesis: While observing the facts a researcher has some hypothesis in mind regarding causal relation between these facts. For example, a researcher observing unhealthy environment knows that unhealthy environment is causative of certain diseases. But only if a researcher has some tentative idea about the disease produced by a certain type of environment, would his observation of any value. For example, excessive smoke in the air causes tuberculosis; but if a researcher finds somebody suffering from cancer in a smoky environment and he jumps to the conclusion that smoke causes cancer he simply was not observing; because without any hypothesis there can be no fruitful observation. 2) Controlled observation under changing circumstances and analysis of facts and elimination of accidental: Controlled observation is the first step in induction. By controlled observations we mean an organized experimental perception of certain facts, under changing circumstances, undertaken with a purpose in view. The facts discovered thus are next recorded systemically; memory is not be relied upon. The facts are now analyzed to find out which of them are essential to a phenomena and which are accidental, i.e. without which a phenomenon would persist and not disappear. For example, the sweetness is essential for sugar, without sweetness there is no sugar. Though whiteness is accidental. We have brown sugar, therefore without whiteness sugar does remain sugar but without sweetness it can’t be sugar. According to Mill,” Those properties by removal of which a fact does not cause to be what it is are accidental.” The purpose of analysis is to eliminate the accidental. 3) Generalization: Another important step in making thesis is generalization. On the basis of particular observed fact; a principle is observed. For example, in a wide range of observation we may find that the majority of juvenile delinquents hail from broken homes, we can formulate the principle that the broken homes encourage criminality. 4) Verification: This means testing the validity of a hypothesis. According to Fowler verification is a novel method of proving hypothesis or sometimes it is used to test a deductive argument by means of an inductive argument and vice versa. If a hypothesis is verified it becomes a scientific principle. There are mainly two modes of verification namely direct and indirect. topics of custom essays

Sunday, December 28th, 2003

Custom essay topic often has to refer to narrative essay topics and it shouldn’t confuse essay writers. Narrative essay usually means telling a story connected with some personal experiences. There is a great variety of the narrative essay topics; actually, any event can be chosen, if writer has some striking details to share with the reader. Single, life-changing events are preferable, but it is also possible to write in the custom essay about mundane daily life. When choosing a topic for a custom essay among cause and effect essay topics, it should be born in mind that the main part is finding the connection between two similar things or processes, because otherwise it would be more difficult to compare them. Establishing a link is prior for choosing a topic. It is a common method when some ideas are organized or discussed in the form of the cause and effect essay, but any writer or learner composing piece of writing in such manner should be aware of some general life and natural laws. Probably he most puzzling and nearly the same interesting custom essay is a reflection essay. It requires certain eloquence and deep understanding of the problem. Such essay will be well-done only in case if writer really has something to say about the problem. The aim of this paper is not that much drawing the conclusions or supporting the certain idea; it is mostly about the developing of the idea and attempting to realize, whether it deserves further consideration. For example, some life-changing experience can lead to the discussion of the total role of changes in life, their value, their disappearance. daisy buchanan the great gatsbys heroine is she retarded

Sunday, December 28th, 2003

Nick Carraway, the narrator, makes much of Daisy’s beauty and her sultry voice. But it is through dialogue and action –through her own words and duplicitous behavior– that we can detect her mental flaws. Lord Francis Bacon in his essay on Beauty said, “There is no excellent beauty that hath not some strangeness in the proportion.” This quality of strangeness is the fact that she’s “slow.” As the story progresses it becomes clear that some things go over her head and as a result she tends to distrust and doubt what to others are acceptable events. In one instance Nick perceives this flaw when he says, “She saw something awful in the very simplicity she failed to understand.” (GG, 107). Echolalia: Understanding doesn’t come easy to Daisy, and when she offers an opinion, it is always an inane opinion that often verges on absurdity. Notice how she deals with one single idea by repeating the same idea three times: “In two weeks it’ll be the longest day in the year.” She looked at us all radiantly. “Do you always watch for the longest day of the year and then miss it? I always watch for the longest day in the year and then miss it.” If you count the pronoun “it” you will realize that she has mentioned the longest day of the year five times. Now, how many of us-unless we are physicists or meteorologists– entertain the idea to “always watch” for the longest day of he year only to miss it? Is it possible that she associates the summer solstice (June 20-21) with a personal date that she should both simultaneously remember and forget? June seems to be an ill-starred month in that summer of her discontent. For, “In June she marries Tom Buchanan of Chicago, with more pomp and circumstance than Louisville ever knew before,” Jordan Baker tells Nick. Since she married Tom in June, then Daisy may be alluding to her wedding anniversary date; a date that she watches for with painful expectancy only to dismiss it. One should also recall that on the eve of her wedding day she receives a letter (presumably from Gatsby) which distresses her immensely, moving her to the point of drunken stupor. As the story unfolds, we learn that Daisy is unhappy in her marriage to Tom, knowing that he is not only a womanizer but also a violent and abusive man. A character that not only repeats the same words with each utterance, but also repeats trivialities and stutters has to be slow, or a least limited, if not feeble-minded. The British philosopher John Locke said of humans, “in their thinking and reasonings within themselves, make use of Words instead of Ideas.” In our own times, the linguist Noam Chomsky sees language as something that grows in the brain. In this light, when Nick portrays Daisy’s with a paucity of speech, we have no choice but to see her as an empty-headed beauty with little or no intellectual acumen. The Renaissance scholar Erasmus of Rotterdam, in his Copia of Words and Ideas-a treatise on the varying of speech-says, “In particular, however, it will be useful in avoiding tautology, that is repetition of the same word or expression, a vice not only unseemly but also offensive. It not infrequently happens that we have to say the same thing several times, in which case, if destitute of copia we will either be at a loss, or, like the cuckoo, croak out the same words repeatedly, and be unable to give different shape or form to the thought. And thus betraying our want of eloquence we will appear ridiculous ourselves and utterly exhaust our wretched audience with wariness.” But let’s return to Daisy’s repetitions: “I looked outdoors for a minute, and it’s very romantic outdoors.” Daisy’s idealized world is a chimerical, fabulous, enchanted dimension where she hopes-with enough faith-she might find love in the form of a rescuing prince. She sees in her cousin Nick as a pleasant, unthreatening figure, who is fun to be with, who is discreet, and who seems loyal to her. Nick for Daisy is someone who will not cause hurt to her as Jay Gatsby did with their separation, and as Tom Buchanan does in their unhappy marriage. “Ah,” she cried, “you look so cool.” “You always look so cool,” she repeated. As she repeats the word ‘cool’ she emphasizes her sentiments that she finds in Nick a benign soul. When Daisy accepts Nick’s invitation to visit with Gatsby, little did she know that Nick would be opening the flood-gates of adultery, misery, crime and evasion, and much unhappiness. “Come back in an hour, Ferdie.” Then in grave murmur: “His name is Ferdie.” When she repeats the name Ferdie in a “grave murmur,” what the narrator signals is the gravity of her unennobling actions; we know that has sealed her fate to committing adultery. Once Daisy enters Gatsby’s mansion, there’s no escape from that castle of doom. Once in Gatsby’s inner sanctum, dazzled by the opulence, she can only spew trivial observations, as when she sees the collection of shirts: “They’re such beautiful shirts,” she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. “It makes me sad because I’ve never seen such–such beautiful shirts before.” Oxford shirts were imported from London, and were the expensive uniform that people in Wall Street would wear. Since Nick was a bond trader, he presumably knew about such beautiful shirts. We can also note a symbolic connection to Gatsby, as he was referred to as an “Oxford man.” What is surprising is that she blurts out not only platitudes, but also absurdities as in the following examples: “I’ll tell you a family secret,” she whispered enthusiastically. “It’s about the butler’s nose. Do you want to hear about the butler’s nose?” But again, what appears an absurdity (to talk about noses in a serious book) may be pseudo symbols to depict “the help,” just as the houses (Daisy’s, Jay’s, and Tom’s) are representative of the “upper crust.” (p.13). Nick refers to Daisy’s laugh as “an absurd, charming little laugh.” (p.8) Daisy also stutters: “I’m p-paralyzed with happiness.” (p8.) Low Self Esteem But much unhappines she reveals when the nurse informs her that her baby is a little girl. Acknowledging the plight of the American woman of her times she says: “I am glad it’s a girl. And I hope she’ll be a fool–that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.” This poignant remark shows Daisy’s little self-esteem and resignation to a life of utter dependency. The French moralist, La Rochefoucauld, writes in maxim 207: “People do not grow mentally after age 25, nor do they grow older mentally. There is little wisdom based on understanding - most wisdom consists of prettified disillusions and is based on bitter experience.” Within the realm of the story, Daisy is the heroine reduced to ill choices caused by her disillusions and bitter experience. When Garcia Marquez’s character (in One Hundred Years of Solitude) Remedios the Beauty ascends to heaven, the reader accepts this fact because the woman in her simple mindedness never sees that her beauty hurts people; even kills them. But when Nick Carraway paints Daisy as a southern belle, an innocent ingenue –knowing full well that she killed Tom’s mistress– that is asking too much of a reader. The text shows that she is the driver in that fated hit-and-run death. When Hamlet said, “Frailty thy name is woman,” he meant, “Frailty thy name is Daisy. Retired. get more sales with these 5 proven headlines

Sunday, December 28th, 2003

It’s important to realize that headlines work best when they appeal to your reader’s interests (not yours). And not only can they *grab attention*, they can also make your message easy to read, convey your main selling points, and lead your customer to a sale. Over the years copywriting pros have used several headline formulas that always work well. Here are my fab five: 1. The Question: “Are You Worried About Your Financial Future?” A question headline automatically gets your readers involved in your message, because they answer it in their minds. Many people will read further into your letter, ad, or Web site copy just to find out what answer or solution you provide. Again, make sure the question focuses on the reader’s interest, not yours. A bad example would be: “Do You Know What New Product We’ve Created This Year?” (No one cares but you!) 2. The How-to: “How to Get Thinner Thighs in 30 Days.” How-to headlines work very well, because people love information that shows them how to do something. (Thousands of book titles begin with “How to….”) Think of the benefits your product/service offers and then try creating some “how to” headlines email newsletter. 3. The Testimonial: “Jane Smith’s Consulting Is Pure Magic — Our Sales Have Increased by 30%!” Why not let your clients do the selling for you? Their commendations can go a long way in convincing others to use your services. Tip: To appear credible, always include your clients’ full names and the cities they live in. 4. The Command: “Boost Your Business Today!” Turn your most important benefit into a commanding headline, such as “Make More Time for Your Family,” “Look Younger Instantly!” and “Get 7 New Clients This Month.” (By the way, throwing a number into your headline is another good tactic. And readers seem to like odd numbers as opposed to even.) 5. The News: “Introducing Our New ‘Rest-Assured’ Tax Service!” Caution: This only works if you truly have something big to announce that is of interest to the reader. (Something that will make her life or business better.) Don’t try to make news out of something that’s not. Once your readers know you have something they’re interested in, they’ll take the time to read your entire article, brochure, letter, ad, e-zine, or Web page. bittersweet vertigo

Friday, December 26th, 2003

Do you like wishing for misfortune? Rapid confusion and false reactions plague this world like fungi. Do you agree or disagree? You react with your unconscious mind and commit crimes against humanity as well as crimes against yourself in this constant state of dizziness. Have you ever had an opportunity to become better or to have something better in your life, but due to irrationalities and doubts you end up losing that opportunity. “Bittersweet Vertigo” is getting what you want but pushing it away because of fear and confusion. On my recent trip to Miami, I was waiting for my connecting plane in North Carolina. I was already planning my second trip for the summer to Houston, Texas. What was interesting though is that I wanted to attract an opportunity for me to travel without necessarily paying for the trip. “Excuse me, can we have your attention please, due to overbooking of the flight, US Airways is offering FREE roundtrip tickets anywhere in the USA except for hawaii and Alaska, if you were to please offer your seat up and take a later flight.” Did I take the trip? NO. “Bittersweet Vertigo” set in. I sat in my chair wanting to move, but all I could think was “What about my Hotel, I don’t want to lose my room,” Now I have already paid for my hotel room, so what’s with the irrationality? Fear and confusion. In my experience, when you ask for something in life you get it. The interesting aspect of it all is recognizing when you are getting it. You seem to live in a state of vertigo, you are in a confused society waiting for “leaders” to tell you what to do. You would generally lack any solid responsibility or decision making. So what do you do? You let opportunities to have what you want slip through our fingers due to “Bittersweet Vertigo.” You can also analyze relationships in your past that have dwindled away because of confusion. Many people tell me, communication is the key to a lasting relationship. I beg to differ, partially. I have had relationships with people that I was so fond of but because of my “Bittersweet Vertigo”, I made irrational comments, I made irrational postulations and I ran these great relationships into the wall because I could not get control of my irrationalities. I was confused. I got what I wanted but I did not know what to do with it. Have you ever heard the saying ” This is too good to be true,” well if you live in between those words. You are living in a world of “Bittersweet Vertigo.”A lot of things in life are good and true, because you asked for them, now accept them and move on. As a human race you need to stop the confusion, and start living with more clarity. You can have whatever you want in life just ask for it and start feeling that you deserve everything that you want. I was talking to a friend last night and I asked him what he wants. He went on to tell me all the qualities he wants in a lover. When I asked him, does he feel he deserves a person with all of those qualities, he went on to say ” I feel like I am advertising, I feel like I am asking too much.” Hmmmm, what does that sound like? “Bittersweet Vertigo.” Let it all go, let the confusion fly away like a helium balloon. Living in the state of “Bittersweet Vertigo” will only push more happiness and more of the opportunities you want, away. Be clear, be forward, live with love and live happily ever after. Tell “Bittersweet Vertigo” to F off. PonderWithCanaan.blogspot.com

battling the blessings by author terry fulgham

Friday, December 26th, 2003

Battling the Blessings is author Terry Fulgham’s life story which spans over fifty years, reflecting on his childhood, the teen years, and into his adulthood. Fulgham changed the names of the characters, including his own, to protect the innocent. We meet Reggie Manchester-Pallor as a nine-year-old in 1956. Reggie lived in Flint, Michigan with his grandparents, who he lovingly referred to as “Big Mama” and “Papa Manchester.” The Manchester house was a caring, respectful, and disciplined Christian home. Growing up then was different than it is today; children only spoke to adults when they were spoken to. If a kid stepped out of line, they were spanked. Reggie saw his share of spankings, or whippings, as he called them. Reggie was very close to his grandparents and, as his father was not around; Papa Manchester was his only male influence. The passing of Papa Manchester left a profound emptiness in 10-year-old Reggie’s life, leaving him with a feeling of helplessness. A few months after the loss of his grandfather, Reggie met Jesse “Pancake” Stoner. Reggie was small for his age and a favorite target of bullies. Pancake was one of the biggest kids in school. With Pancake around, no one bothered Reggie. Pancake and Reggie grew to be as close as brothers, and together were both respected and feared in their neighborhood. At age 13, Reggie, Pancake and their friends began drinking wine, smoking, and later, stealing cars. Reggie was the only one of his friends to graduate from high school. In the last few years of school, he held numerous jobs where he was known as a hard and dedicated worker. This weekday life differed greatly from his weekends, as he continued to love the street life. Drinking alcohol and cough syrup (for a codeine high), popping pills, fighting, stealing, and chasing girls filled his off work hours. Big Mama doubted Reggie would see his 21st birthday if he didn’t stop his street life. The failure of his second marriage and the death of a close friend had Reggie drinking more than ever and deeper into drugs and his life of crime. It took losing a fight to a younger man, being severely beaten, and his mother’s desperate pleading for him to straighten out his life to get Reggie to take his sobriety seriously and pray, “Lord, stop me from drinking.” Much more than a story of addiction, Battling the Blessings is a snapshot of American history. Fulgham treats us with his memories of growing up in the 50’s and 60’s, using the slang and lingo of that time in his realistic dialogue. He adds the music, clothes, hairstyles, and vehicles of the day and tells his riveting story with his own unique style to take us back to that turbulent time. Battling The Blessings isn’t simply a kid-gets-hooked-on-booze-and-drugs-and-turns-his-life-around story. It is an unflinching and inspiring telling of a man’s struggle with himself and his demons. Fulgham doesn’t make excuses for his actions; he takes full responsibility. Reggie isn’t a bad guy-he is a smart, compassionate person who just made many bad choices. I found myself cheering for him, hoping that he would one day leave the street life behind and make himself and his family proud. This is Fulgham’s first book. However, he writes with the skill of a seasoned author. He knows how to spin a story in a way that will affect and captivate his reader. Often, I was laughing at his humour, shaking my head in shock, and misting up at a sad passage all in the same chapter. I highly recommend this entertaining glimpse into a remarkable life.

4 things all articles must have dont forget

Friday, December 26th, 2003

The importance of articles in today’s websites and internet based companies are immeasurable. They dictate a lot in the success and the drive of traffic into one’s site. It has become a key element in making a site work and earns a profit. A website operator and owner must have the good sense to include articles in his or her site that will work for them and earn them the many benefits articles can give to their site. Articles have been known to be the driving force in driving traffic to a website. Articles are a factor in giving site high rankings in search result pages. The higher a site ranks the bigger slice of the traffic flow pie he gets. With a huge number in traffic flow, there are more profits and more potential for other income generating schemes as well. But, it is not just about stuffing your site with articles; they have certain requirements as well. These requirements must be met to obtain the maximum benefits an article will provide for your site. A well written article will catch the eyes and interest of your customers and keep them coming back for more. They would also be able to recommend your site to others. Here are some tips to help you and assist you in making your articles. Below you will read about four things all articles must have to make it successful and helpful in making your site a profit earning and traffic overflowing site. • Keywords and Keyword Phrases. An article must always be centered on the keywords and keyword phrases. As each website visitor goes to a site, there are those who are just merely browsing but actually looking for a specific something. When this happens, a searcher usually goes to a search engine and types in the keywords they are looking for (e.g. Toyota Camry, Meningitis, Tax Lawyer and Etcetera). It could be anything they want. The Important thing is that you have an article that has the keywords that are related to your site. For example, if you maintain an auto parts site, you must be able t have articles about cars and their parts. There are many tools in the internet that provides service in helping a webmaster out in determining what keywords and keyword phrases are mostly sought out. You can use this tool to determine what keywords to use and write about. • Keyword Density Know that you have your keywords and keyword phrases, you must use them fully. An article must have good keyword density for a search engine to “feel” its presence. Articles should at least have ten to fifteen percent of keyword density in their content for search engines to rank a site high in their search results. Getting a high rank is what articles do best for a site. Keyword density is the number of times a keyword or keyword phrase is used on an article. The number varies depending on the number of words used in an article. An effective article must have a keyword density that is not too high or too low. With a very high density, the essence of the article is lost and may turn off a reader as well as the search engines. It comes off as overeager. A low number may be ignored by the search engines. • Good Article Content Like what is stated above, you cannot just riddle an article with keywords. They must also be regarded as good reading materials. Articles must be able to entertain people as well as provide good information and help for their needs. Articles should be written well with correct spelling and good grammar. If you want people to trust you, make your work good and well thought out. People respond well to figures, facts and statistics. Try to get great information and as many facts as you can. A good and well written article will boost your reputation as an expert in your chosen field or topic. As more people believe in you. They will be able to trust you and your products. • Linking Articles And another important thing to remember. If you are going to submit articles to ezines and/or contribute your articles to newsletters and other sites, DON’T ever forget to include a link to your site. A little resource box with a brief description of your site and you should always be placed right after your articles that you have submitted. If people like your articles, they will most likely click on the link directing them to your site. As you can see, there are many aspects that go into writing a news article and writing better in general. By following these simple tips, however, you can ensure that you are getting the most out of this all-important document.

do you have the fever for writing

Wednesday, December 24th, 2003

Do you want to get paid for doing something that you love to do? Your passion for writing can actually be used to your advantage in the so-called article marketing strategy in advertising your business. Choose an interesting topic that is related to your respective business, research about it and write a resourceful article about your researched topic. Focus on popular subjects that you very well know people will be looking for in the Internet. And, include highly ranked keywords and Meta tags that will increase the possibility of having your article (as well as your website) included in the top list of search engine results. Furthermore, here are some more specific secrets that will help you maximize your writing skill in bringing good fortune and profit to you and your business. 1. Write to only one person. Your article should definitely target a pretty large number of readers. However, when you are writing your article, try to picture only one person whom you will address your article to. This makes your article more amiable, thereby keeping the attention and interest of your readers. 2. Make use of white spaces. White spaces in an article can actually be beneficial by making your work appear more professional and a lot easier to read. Too lengthy paragraphs may seem boring and uninteresting, especially for skim readers. 3. Proofread your articles. Check your articles for any misspelled words and other grammatical errors. Go over and read out loud your article at least twice to ensure that it is free of any inappropriately used words or syntax. 4. Make the most of constructive criticisms. Ask what others have to honestly say or comment about your articles, accepting their feedbacks, and using them constructively can help you become a better writer. Continue to do well on areas where you have received compliments and improve on your weak points. And if there is a need for you to change your writing style, do not be afraid to so. Even the most negative criticisms or feedbacks can be beneficial to you if you see them in a constructive way. 5. Try writing about different things. There may be times that you feel like you can only write articles about a certain topic. This is just normal. However, this must not hinder you from trying other writing styles and tackling about different subjects that may be entirely new to you. Doing so will help develop your writing skills. 6. Never forget your resource box. You may submit your articles in your affiliate article directories, ezines, and other online publishers. In these cases, you must always include a resource box in your articles, which must contain your site’s URL address. This link will help redirect your affiliates? subscribers and guests to your business site, and hopefully make them interested enough to buy the products or services that you are offering. Articles are effective and convenient marketing tools in the Cyber world today.
