article writing for right brained writers

Wednesday, January 28th, 2004

Have you ever written an article for online users? Did you get the kind of attention you were hoping for? Did your readers find your articles well-written and useful? Did your articles help you drive these people to your website? If not, you need to supercharge your article writing strategies through these 6 effective steps: 1. Instead of creating a draft, record your thoughts. If you want your articles to sound conversational, easy to understand, and upbeat, I recommend that you record your thoughts using an affordable tape recorder. This is the best way that you can do to make your articles sound as natural as much as possible. This can also help you speed up the writing process so you can be more productive. 2. Punctuate properly. You can’t expect your readers to pay close attention to your articles if you don’t know or if you are not sure on when to use a comma, exclamation point, and period when writing your content. This will make your readers feel that you are not a good writer; thus, you are not the best person to trust or do business with. 3. Use short sentences. Read your articles out loud before you post them online. If your lungs are about to collapse before you finish reading your sentences, that would tell you one thing: your sentences are too long. Keep your sentences short as much as possible so you can not only make your articles easy on the eyes but easy to understand as well. 4. Spell your words correctly. Are you using “your” when you are supposed to you “you’re”? Not sure on how to use “it’s” and “its”. Then, it’s high time that you reacquaint yourself with proper spelling so you can avoid confusing or misleading your readers. 5. Stay away with words that you do not completely understand. It’s okay to use impressive words from time to time. Just make sure that you know the meaning of the terms that you are using and their proper usage. 6. Be mindful of your grammar. You’ll be able to easily grab the attention of your readers and you’ll surely earn their trust and confidence if your grammar is perfect. Read relevant books and online resources of correct grammar usage and consider attending writing seminars to improve your skill level. link:sriramsblog.co.cc

why sales letter demand increase in business

Monday, January 26th, 2004

Everybody loves to listen to a high-quality story but not many people tell stories in their sales letters and that’s a shame since story telling is a sure-fire way of capturing a person’s notice. Selling and story telling are skills that we all possess but very few of us capitalize upon… Think about your life and the things you’ve done and you’ll be able to come up with hundreds of stories, For more details visit to .sale-trigger-generator.com all you’ve got to do now is package one and include it next time you write. Start off with something like “I can remember the day I… “And instantly your listener will give you their full attention, wanting to hear more. Here’s an example of some selling that everybody does at some time or another, without even thinking: Remember that fantastic movie you saw the other week and how you told all your friends about it, and you said they’d be mad to miss watching it? Well that is selling by using stories in a nut-shell, and we all do it, we all have it inside ourselves! What is more difficult; however is to take that natural skill and transfer it to our product? In other words to actually take those words and put them down on paper or in the case of online selling, onto that ‘magic’ little screen that allows us to talk to millions of other people around the world. We often come up with a total blank when we try to put our thoughts down and write copy to sell our product. When this happens we should revisit the wisdom of our ancestors, go back to the days before we all had computers and further still, for more details visit to .10steps-to-killer-web-copy.com the times before books or even paper were thought about. Go on think back… Are you there yet? Well, how did our ancestors pass on their messages and the folk lore of their times? They used stories. They told stories that captivated their listener’s attention and kept them where they were, listening in enraptured silence to the lore of ancients. Motivational Speakers Use Them Too Think about all the great motivational speakers, how do they capture their audience’s attention? They use stories of course. They paint a picture with words so powerfully that it allows their audience to SEE exactly what they are talking about! I remember watching the great Jim Rohm in action a few years ago. He was telling a story of how, as a youngster, the bank wanted to repossess his car because he was having difficulty meeting the monthly payments. .sales-page-rapid-fire.com .sales-letters-creator.com He went on to tell how, on the day the tow truck came to take his car back, he stormed into the bank with a bag full of one cent pieces and slammed it on the desk right in front of the manager. How he told the manager to count out the money, every last cent that was owed, and the great satisfaction he had as he sat there for over an hour and watched the manager do just that, clear his debt and call back his hounds!

analyzing great speeches how to write your own gettysburg address

Monday, January 26th, 2004

Do you know the name Edward Everett? Neither did I until recently. He was the principle speaker at the dedication of the Gettysburg cemetery dedication. Before President Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address, Everett spoke for two hours. His speech was 13,607 words long. Abraham Lincoln’s was only 271. Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address is one of the most quoted speeches in U.S. history (see “Introduction to Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, published by the U.S. State Department). Edward Everett’s is nearly forgotten. What made the difference? Why did one speech succeed and the other fail? Whoever can discover the answer to this elusive question will have the key to writing their own great speeches. So without further ado, let’s examine how one could go about analyzing a great speech to find the answer.Determine the purpose of the speech. Read through the speech, noting elements that aid in that purpose. Note elements that hinder that purpose. Consider the audience and historical context. What is the historical context that motivated the speaker’s purpose? What does the audience think the purpose is? Finally, consider how to use those elements and ideas to your advantage. To elaborate, we need to ask one crucial question: What is a good speech? Answer: One that accomplishes its purpose. Understanding this principle is central to being able to analyze speeches. To paraphrase Aristotle, a good hammer hammers well. A good light lights well. A good bomb explodes well. A good speech accomplishes it’s purpose. The Gettysburg Address memorialized both the soldiers who fought and the nation they fought for. It did so in such an exceedingly spectacular way that schoolchildren in the United States routinely have to memorize the whole discourse. Now we have a direction to move in as we analyze the speech. The next step is to read through the speech, noting elements that aid in accomplishing it’s purpose. For the Gettysburg Address, one might note the first line. “Four score and seven years ago our forefathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” If you live in the United States and can’t quote the whole thing, you can probably quote the first line. If you can’t quote the first line, you can the first six words. Why? Because Lincoln took a normal phrase (”87 years ago”) and made it into something new and interesting (”Four score and seven years ago”). Next he appealed to tradition, to a shared history with the phrase “our forefathers.” Next he mentioned the principles upon which the nation was founded - for the audience, this must have rung with especial poignancy, because they had just fought a war over the very equality that Lincoln spoke of. The whole speech continues in this manner: there’s something new to learn with every line. Next, note any items that hinder the purpose of the speech. In the Gettysburg Address, these items are few. That’s one of the things that makes it a great speech! But one can learn much from worse speeches, by looking also at what doesn’t work. After that, consider the audience and the historical context. You’ll already have done this somewhat during the steps above, but take a moment to look at things in context as a whole. The audience at Gettysburg probably responded very enthusiastically to Lincoln’s short speech because they had just sat through a two-hour oration! Finally, consider how to use these elements to your advantage. In this case, think of creative (but not ostentatious) ways to say normal things. Appeal to common histories. Reference situationally ironic ideals. Speak to universal values and truths. And above all, when you follow a 2-hour oration, remember to keep it short.

wine blending an overview

Monday, January 26th, 2004

Just last week we went on a wonderful day trip. Our visit was to Chapel Down, England’s largest wine producer, nestled in the beautiful enclave of Tenterden in Kent. We were shown around by Owen Elias, the head winemaker, who kindly suffered an endless barrage of questions. Chapel Down grow a number of grapes (as well as buying them in) including well known varieties such Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc, alongside more obscure varietals (very popular here amongst winemakers in Blighty) such as Siegerrebe, Reichensteiner, Huxelrebe, Dornfelder and Regent. When I asked Owen how his wines were blended, I was expecting quite an analytical answer (”this is decided in a laboratory with a technical assistant etc”). What I got was something different - the blends are in fact decided (quite quickly seemingly) on the floor of the winery. Chapel Down have been at this game for some time now, and are at the stage where they clearly feel they know what they are doing! Wine blending isn’t really something you think about when tasting wine, but it is a hugely important process for many winemakers, so why is it done? The concept behind blending is to create synergy - a wine that is greater than the sum of its parts. Blending has a long tradition in winemaking; top wines from Bordeaux, Champagne and Chianti are amongst those which have traditionally been made up of blends of wines made from different grape varieties. Most Clarets (red wines from Bordeaux) are for instance multi-varietal. Synergistic reasons notwithstanding - this is also due to the region’s varying weather conditions each year, which make vine growing unpredictable. Different grape varieties react differently to different weather conditions, and by planting a range of varieties, growers hedge their bets. Each grape adds something slightly different to a blend. In Champagne for instance, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are traditionally blended together. Pinot Noir is meaty, giving the body, backbone and structure to a blend. Chardonnay is lighter, giving austerity, acidity, and lime-like, appley notes. Pinot Meunier gives easy to drink, up-front fruitiness. It’s also important to note that blending does much to promote consistency from release to release, or year to year. The Champenois (Veuve Clicquot, Bollinger etc) in particular are famous for their non vintage house styles, and it’s extremely important for them to create a consistent wine year in, year out. Without blending, this would be virtually impossible. As we’re talking about French wines here, blending is actually known as coupage or assemblage in France. In Champagne some non vintage wines can be put together from as many as 70 different base wines! Interestingly, wine blending historically had a slightly dubious reputation amongst the drinking public (at least it did before Europe brought in wine rules and regulations in the mid 20th century, which tightened up procedures). It was felt that blending was practiced to mask defects, and to bulk up an otherwise good quality wine. Times have changed however, The Oxford Wine Companion puts it succinctly “in todays most competitive and quality conscious wine market, motivation for blending is more improvement than deception.” Wine blending is an art, and in many cases (particularly in Europe) blending skills and knowledge are handed down from generation to generation. In our wine tasting events wine blending is certainly one of our most hands on activities - we’d encourage you to give it a go! Pip Martin manages and produces International, UK-wide and London wine tasting games and other specialist events for the corporate events industry.

selfpublishing creative writing anthologies at school

Saturday, January 24th, 2004

As any parent or high school teacher already knows, high school students can be hard to motivate. While it is true that some teens love to write , it’s fair to say that most of them would prefer not to. As educators, we know that the only way to become a better writer is to practice writing. The problem with most high school writing assignments is that they lack relevance for students. They are more concerned with getting the right answer than they are about developing their writing skills and pushing themselves to hone their verbal prowess. At the same time, they do seem to show more interest in the work of their peers than they do in the works of literature in their textbooks. After spending months and months teaching your students the hallmarks of good writing, a great way to spark some interest in writing is to self-publish an anthology of creative writing at your school. As you approach this publication project, there are a few things you should consider. Some teens love attention and thrive on competition. Others prefer to silently participate. If you structure the publication project correctly, both types of students will be interested in working on the publication. Let students know that everyone who submits their pieces by the early bird deadline will definitely have at least one piece selected for publication. In addition to including all writers who submit early, hold a competition for the best pieces. Offer simple prizes for first, second, and third places in different categories. You can select categories based on the anticipated scope of the publication project. For small schools, choose broad categories such as poetry, prose, etc. For larger schools, you can choose more specific categories such as sonnets, descriptive paragraphs, and the like. You may also want to expand the project to include art. In doing so, you can also likely get the art staff to help you lay out and design the final publication. Set your deadlines for submission and decide on other critical dates. You should assemble a team of students who can help you type and edit the submissions as they come in. You will want to develop a style guide and train the students to follow it. Establish a directory and a procedure and rules for saving and accessing the typed submissions. The more thought you put into the process at the beginning, the more smoothly your publication will come together later. As you and your team put together the files and make design decisions, you need to order the supplies required to physically assemble the anthology. Before you order supplies, think about the size of the final document and how many copies you plan to distribute. You should think about offering complimentary copies to winners and to your publications team. Others can buy the publication for a nominal fee. Once you’ve run the numbers, order the paper, ink or toner, and binding supplies. Depending on how you choose to bind the publication, you will need to order different supplies. Once you have the document print-ready, it’s time to assemble. Again, this is a chance to get students involved. They like to help with office tasks they are not accustomed to doing, so it shouldn’t be too hard to get some help. Once the documents are assembled, work with your administration to recognize the winning students. You can put their names on a sign or bulletin board or even recognize them at a school assembly. Once the word gets out, other students and their families will be calling the school to purchase copies of the book. It’s not difficult to self-publish a school anthology if you are organized. Plan ahead and enjoy seeing your students develop a sense of pride in their writing as they share it with their classmates and their families. There is something magical about seeing one’s own words preserved in a bound publication like a school anthology. It is an experience they will carry with them throughout their lives. why cliff notes are so great

Thursday, January 22nd, 2004

Writing and editing advice from .goodtermpaper.com Cliff Notes are great because they are written by dedicated scholars and phD’s who are deeply in love with their subject. They know the Great Book inside and out, and it may have even changed their lives or added some valued bit of perspective to them as people. Thus, they are seriously relating every important bit of plot development while relating what it all means to the society at the time, the writer’s other works, etc. You can draw from this knowledge (in your own words, don’t copy their words or their ideas!) You can use their ideas, throw in a little here and there to your own argument, but do not make a straight linear transition of their doctoral thesis to your paper. That will not sound right to your professor. Instead, just sit back with the Cliff Notes, and pretend you are reading a novel. A really fast moving novel that gets right to the point, and doesn’t waste any time on setting the scene as great writers are wont to do. If there is something important about the setting or time period that is vital to the larger work as a whole, or perhaps symbolic of something, you can be sure the Cliff Notes will not hesitate to tell you! They love that stuff, really. So if your are in an English class but you are limited in time/energy, go get the Cliff Notes and give them the serious, tender loving attention you would give to the book if you were a wealthy aristocrat with a huge library and infinite leisure at your disposal. There is no shame in it. The glaring yellow savior is NOT a hack or slacker’s tool, if it is truly used with respect and discretion. The WRONG WAY to use Cliff notes is to read them as fast as possible and try to throw their ideas into a random mishmash of hackneyed prose. You still have to make a thoughtful outline for your paper, and you still have to know what you are talking about. Just please, before you begin on the yellow and black booklet, say a prayer to the Lords of the Great books and let them know that you do perceive their truth and beauty. Just mention as an act of contrition that like the great poet John Keats, you are really pressed for time. This article was written by the Editor in Chief at .goodtermpaper.com
