simple rules for a good story

Saturday, October 30th, 2004

1- You need a main character (protagonist). He should have a well-developed personality and be interesting. This usually comes about as he/she confides in someone or something. An animal, God, a friend or a talisman could be the confident. Example: “Am I forever condemned to ask your opinion about my choice of companions? After all, you are a dragon. What do you know about friendship between humans?” 2- Lesser characters are those that help the protagonist fulfill his/her role by become his/her stepping stones or his/her obstacle. Example: “I told her to leave and never bother you again,” Nestor announced proudly. “What?” cried Ramon worriedly. “Why did you do that? I need her counsel.” “I was just trying to help you.” “Now what am I to do?” “You said you didn’t want to see her again,” he countered. “I didn’t meant it… You … you’re an idiot.” 3- The bad character (antagonist) is the one that helps the protagonist progress or stops his/her progress by testing his limits. Example: “I like you and see no reason to waste a specimen like you,” the demon started. “You have shown me brains and guts. I admire that in my enemies. If you just let go of your ideals, I’ll make you Lord of the land and all its treasures will be yours.” “You can’t buy me,” retorted Sinan, shaking the chains that held him to the wall. “I’ll never give in to you. “I’m patient,” the demon smiled crookedly. “Everyone has a price… I just have to find yours.” 4- The narrator is the one who helps the reader understand where, what, and why the characters are doing something or reacting in a particular fashion. Example: Now, that is what happens to the universe when you put a greedy king and an unscrupulous queen together. The planets that happen to be subject to them pay the price. 5- Scenery is what shows us where our characters are. It could be a place, space, a season or the imagination of the character. Example: In my mind’s eye I can still see the verdure of the forest split by the mist of the blue rivers that dotted the mountainside. That is a great start, now go and happy writings to you… For more on writing visit .annadelc.com. Anna del C. Dye Author of “The Silent Warrior Trilogy” .annadelc.com

failure to spellout exercises

Thursday, October 28th, 2004

Failure to spell-out exercises in numbered steps writing good exercises is an art. When you have a clear image of an exercise, it is easy to feel that the elements are self-explanatory, and that actually labeling them Step 1, Step 2, etc. would be redundant. But it is not redundant, it is a necessity. Generally, an exercise teaches readers a new ability they did not have before. Or fine-tunes one they already possess, but aren’t making the best use of. Both situations intimidate readers. Most people are certain they have unusual difficulty learning and will get things wrong. They can literally panic when they find advice or tips that haven’t been broken down into numbered steps. They immediately become confused and trip themselves up trying to think of every possible interpretation of what you’ve written. In all these cases, they are more likely to give up than to give your techniques a try. But there is no guesswork when you format your exercises in the form of numbered steps. Using them relieves the reader’s feelings of intimidation. Plus, since the exercise has been divided into small, easy sections, readers become more confident that they can do it. The result is that readers are far more likely to give your exercises a try than the brush-off. In short, do not just write down your exercises in the form of general advice. Take for example, the following exercise for coining dramatic, colorful “sell” phrases. Here’s what not to do: “Write down what you want to say in your own words. Rephrase what you have written to give it as positive a spin as possible. Using what you have just written as inspiration, dream up four or five other positive ways you might formulate your point. Go over everything you have written, including your first, rough try at what you wanted to say. Underline, or put a check mark next to, the words you think have the most power. Try putting the words you have underlined together in different creative combinations. Write down the results. Dan has been writing articles for nearly 4 years. ed hardy clothing store in england

Thursday, October 28th, 2004

When it comes to ed hardy clothing, it is hard for us to ignore its designers who have established their reputation all over the world, One is Don Christian Louboutin. He is named as America contemporary godfather of tattoo, Another is Christian Audigier, often referred as “king of jeans”, was once the designer of some famous brands, such as Diesel, Levi’s, etc. It is undeniable that the two masters cooperation has bringing marvelous sparkles to the fashion world, Yet, in my sight, the negative influences of their designs embodied in the following parts also deserve our attention: Above all, the young people should wear the ed hardy that could let them impress others as energetic and positive, But coogi, both the baseball cap embroidered tattoo as well as totem and the clothes that take use of embroidery, washing, splash-ink, integrating skulls, eagle anchor, daimon and other tattoo patterns, All of them will give others a sense of decadence and degradation. What’s more, as many critics ever put it: Christian Louboutin shirts just jumble up patterns which are overly sexy and aggressive. Indeed, the benevolent see the benevolence and the wise see the wisdom. The above are some of my personal feeling of Affliction. Therefore, you can hold your own view, Perhaps, you feel that Christian Audigier is most suitable for you. Then, it is nothing important for you to choose it.

you wont find any adsense ads on my website

Tuesday, October 26th, 2004

Yes, I’ve read about the apparent ‘death of Adsense’ and my inbox has been stuffed with claims and counter claims about the value of this product or that strategy. . But that is not the reason. You see, I am a writer. I love nothing more than to research and write material on the area of my passion. In fact I have devoted my life to that very thing. Other than a bit of housework and meal preparation in support of my hardworking life- partner, my time is spent online researching and writing my own material. I am very proud of the material I have produced and offer in the form of articles and e-books on my website. Once I have attracted a visitor to my site, why on earth would I want them to suddenly leave and go who knows where? At least if they clicked on an affiliate link I have something of an advantage for two reasons: (a) I have chosen where the visitor will go when they leave my site and (b) I could receive some income if they purchase the product or service on the site to which I am an affiliate. With Adsense, the most likely place my hard-earned visitor would end up would be my direct competitor! That’s like owning a Pizza restaurant and advertising the local Chicken Take-Away in my establishment. Yet, that is in effect, the type of thing I would be doing if I displayed Adsense on my site. Yes, it might make sense to Google to provide contextual advertising. It would probably even make sense to the advertiser (otherwise why would they do it). But it makes no sense to me. I write because I believe I have something worthwhile to say. I believe, in all honesty, there are a lot of people who would benefit from hearing what I have to say. . I also believe that laborers are worthy of their hire, so yes, I offer some of my material for sale. I put my material before people. If they like what they see, if it fills a need in their life at that particular moment in time, they may buy. If they don’t like what they see, that’s okay. But the last thing I want is for them to rush in and out of my ‘store’ because their attention has been grabbed by my competitor who I allow to stand in the entrance to my place of business for the purpose of diverting my customers across to his ‘store’. Will they come back to me? I don’t really know, but I sure as heck would rather it didn’t happen in the first place. On the other hand, I recognize that I am something of a crusader. My site is not there specifically for me to make money, although the income is appreciated. If I was only interested in making money (and it seems, if you believe everything you read you either make millions or you make zero when you are in business on the Internet. There is, apparently, no middle ground) then I could provide the mega-store approach and offer you anything and everything your heart desires. I heard recently of one entrepreneur who has 75000 websites! Apparently the content on those sites is so unappealing that he makes tens of thousands of dollars each month from Adsense alone. To that I say ‘Great. I trust he enjoys his money’ I choose to journey along a road apparently less travelled. What I lose out on in the area of financial gain, I certainly make up for in satisfaction of achieving my life’s goal and a career path that I honestly love. There’s not much more I could ask for.

how to write a business letter super tips to create a stunning business letter

Saturday, October 23rd, 2004

If you are planning to start a business, you cannot afford to neglect knowing how to write a business letter. Even if your business may be just a small entrepreneurial startup, knowing how to write a business letter is a key skill that you, or at least one of your assistants, should know. Before we go on with the technicalities of an effective business letter, let’s lay down the reasons why a business owner should have excellent writing skills. Business letters are the primary means by which your company would communicate to investors. They should give a great impression of you and your company. They could actually prove crucial to your business taking off or to its survival. Business letters should be understandable, be able to communicate exactly what needs to be done, or state communication in a very clear manner. Without clarity, miscommunication may lead to misunderstandings, or worse, botched jobs. Want to write a business letter that rocks? Then it has to possess these characteristics: 1. The standard format of letter writing applies. Ideally, a business letter should contain the following information, in order: ? Letterhead (the sender’s address) ? Current date ? Recipient name and address ? Subject (optional) ? Salutation/Greeting ? Message (body of the letter) ? Closing salutation ? Signature (including the corporate designation/position of the sender) 2. The business letter should be written in block style. 3. Use double space; and as much as possible, keep the letter in the center of the paper you use. 4. Do not shorten your words and verb forms. “Do not” should not be written as “don’t,” and so on. Otherwise, the letter gives an impression of informality. 5. Keep the letter brief and concise, but be sure to include all the information you need to communicate. In knowing how to write a business letter, make sure that it elicits the desired results. Keep the following in mind: ? Include a reference to an event, matter, or information that is pertinent to your letter, or is the reason for your writing the letter even. ? Obviously, you would need to include the reasons for your writing. Whether the letter is a request, agreeing to a request, delivering bad news, etc., don’t be so busy as to actually forget what you need to communicate. ? Remember to enclose the important documents that the letter should come with. ? Provide a reference to where the recipient could contact you after reading the letter. ? Always keep a copy of the letter with you. As you can see, knowing how to write a business letter is rather simple. Just bear in mind that this letter aims to communicate and that the main objective is to communicate what you need to in the clearest and most concise manner possible. why should i epublish

Friday, October 22nd, 2004

Its fun, challenging, and nothing beats the feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment when You click on that little icon and your ebook comes up on the screen. Writing a book is a Monumental effort and you deserve a lot of credit for that. Just getting to this point puts you Head and shoulders above most of the would-be writers out there, and you’re halfway through the publishing process Publishing a book is no more than a dream for most people. How many writers have well? Manuscripts tucked away at the bottom of a drawer because they can’t (or won’t) market them? How many others have dutifully sent off their manuscripts to 10 or 20 or 50 publishers with? Nothing more to show for it than a stack of rejection slips there are many, many manuscripts Out there that deserve to be published, that have a market waiting for what they have written, And yet, because of the way traditional publishing works, these books will never make it to print. But, the Internet has given us a unique alternative to traditional publishing - the ebook and Electronic publishing! It doesn’t matter if you’re 6 or 60. It doesn’t matter if you work at a full-time job, part-time job or not at all. It doesn’t matter if you stay home and take care of the kids and the house, or if you’re retired. You can write and publish an ebook! Some books are better candidates for e-publishing than others are, but it really depends on the End result you want to achieve. If you just want an ebook of your poetry to give to friends and relatives, you will approach the Process a little differently than those who want to make some money out of their writing. The ebook will look the same, but the level of involvement in the process will vary. Let’s take a look at the various forms of writing and how the Internet impacts them. Non-fiction (either adult or for children) is far and away the best candidate for moneymaking E-publishing (For those who don’t know what non-fiction is, non-fiction is anything that is REAL - Not made-up. For example, cars, boats, cookbooks, math, history, penguins, dogs, houses, decorating, building, hobbies, sports - the list is endless.) There are several reasons why non-fiction sells best: * We live in an information-age and people are hungry for information that will help them live Better, fuller lives. * There are many diverse groups of people out there with very varied interests. The big Publishers in the real world have, for the most part, ignored these people’s needs in favor of Mass-market books * These diverse groups can make your marketing much easier since each group is a target Market and is hungry for the information you can give them. The tighter the market, the easier To target, and, the easier to sell if you write an ebook on training Golden Retrievers to be Assistance Dogs, you have a specific target market that’s reachable through the Web. * Your risk factor is virtually zero. Tight targeting reduces risk factors. There is a never-ending list of possible topics to write about. Even within a tightly targeted Market there is vast numbers of topics. Using our Golden Retriever example, what other Topics are possibilities within this target market? You could spin off an ebook on “Behavioral Problems of Assistance Dogs”, or you could write a Series of e-reports on specific behaviors such as “Teaching Assistance Dogs to Turn on Lights” * The market can be tested easily. The Internet allows testing very easily and inexpensively (or For free). We have to take advantage of that. Genre fiction, such as horror, science fiction, mysteries, romance, etc. are also well defined Reachable markets Most people have a favorite genre. Personally, I’m a horror fan - I’ll read Any horror book that comes down the pike my wife, on the other hand, loves mysteries. We Both frequent sites that specialize in these types of ebook. Are we good targets? You bet! These are niche markets - people who enjoy bonsai, jet skiing, golden retrievers (and about a Million more subjects! Target a good niche and you’re practically guaranteed sales! General fiction presents a little more risk, because the quality of the writing itself can make or Break a book, but, nonetheless, it has the potential of making some money for the author. For General fiction, I’d suggest getting your ebook reviewed and placed on sites such as Book locker ] An ISBN number will also get your ebook on Borders bookstore website Some electronic publishers will supply an ISBN number, or you can get one yourself Last, but certainly not least, in the area of fiction is erotica. Women call it “erotica”; men call it “Porn” You may not like it, and may never wants to write it, but people are making money writing It that makes it a viable target market! The Internet’s best sellers anything having to do with sex! In the real world, poetry is absolutely the toughest to sell. People don’t buy poetry, they write it Themselves still, there are lots of poetry sites on the Web. Again, the Web gives you a market, Or, at the very least, an audience Children’s storybooks in the real world are a very tough market - especially for self-publishers. There are already a tremendous number of children’s books on the market, so you are Immediately fighting an uphill battle Also, because of the color and size requirements for children’s books, they can be very costly To produce but all that changes on the Web - color is a snap, distribution is simplified, Multimedia makes children’s ebook even more appealing, and the kids of the world are even Hungrier for information than the adults! While we’re on the subject of kids, let me throw something else in here. The child’s age is not a Factor Kids are getting computer-literate at younger and younger ages all the time, and in many Instances are more sophisticated than their parents at using a computer. Kids are a prime Market for good ebook! You could create a series of story ebook, or send the kids on a Multimedia treasure hunt all over the world! Have you noticed a common thread here? You should have the common thread is that on the Web there are no limits! Exciting, isn’t it? Have you always wanted your fiction book to be illustrated? Do it! Write what you want - the way you want - someone is going to want to read it! So, are you ready now? I’ll be looking for your ebook on the Web! hiring an seo company what does google say

Thursday, October 21st, 2004

When it comes to understanding what Google thinks about Search Engine Optimization, I prefer to listen to the folks at Google themselves. Usually this involves quoting the Google Webmaster Guidelines, or quoting Matt Cutts, Senior Engineer at Google - head of Quality Control and their authorized spokesperson. The first thing that Google says in their Webmaster’s Guidelines page devoted to hiring an SEO company is:“Deciding to hire an SEO is a big decision that can potentially improve your site and save time, but you can also risk damage to your site and reputation. Make sure to research the potential advantages as well as the damage that an irresponsible SEO can do to your site.”Coming from Google, that’s no joke. This is a clear statement to site owners that if you hire a company to optimize your site, and they break the rules, there’s no playing dumb. “Practices that violate our guidelines may result in a negative adjustment of your site’s presence in Google, or even the removal of your site from our index.”… so whether you knew the techniques your SEO company used violated Google’s policies or not, your site will be penalized or banned nonetheless. After warning of the dangers of hiring an unethical SEO company, Google goes on to recommend that site owners become informed about how search engines work. This is Google’s attempt to get people to understand that there’s no secret, magic formula that SEO companies have to cause your site to rank higher. In the end, it comes down to taking the time to build a great site with lots of great content, with some basic common sense optimization procedures to ensure Google can find your site, understand what it’s about, and can see that other sites on the net like it enough to link to it.Not all SEO Companies are Created EqualGoogle’s discussion on SEO companies, however, is not all fire and brimstone. While Google clearly warns of the dangers of “over aggressive” SEO companies, they also point out all the benefits that responsible SEO companies can provide.”‘Many SEOs and other agencies and consultants provide useful services for website owners” “… a good SEO can also help improve an existing site.”As you can begin to see, SEO companies that perform these types of “natural” SEO services are actually appreciated by Google and the other search engines. Search engines recognize that responsible SEO companies can help improve the quality of the Google index by producing high quality content, making that content easier to find and decipher, and helping to promote that content to other site owners who may choose to link to it if the quality is good enough.Natural SEOIn my post entitled, “What is All Natural” SEO?”, I discuss Google’s philosophy when it comes to search engine optimization. To summarize, Google and the other search engines only allow natural behavior when it comes to designing, building, and promoting your website. What they consider to be unnatural is any actions performed that aims directly to manipulate their algorithm in an attempt to cause your site to rank higher in their index. The Bottom LineIf you’re thinking of hiring an SEO company, feel free to listen to all the “experts” out there as to what techniques are acceptable or not. However, it’s always wisest to listen to the folks at Google in the end. Educate yourself about the various optimization techniques out there and demand to know what which of these techniques your SEO is using. Read my post that discusses various link building efforts. Some techniques will work in the short term, but if you’re caught, the penalty can be devastating.Just like in real life, there’s always a shortcut, but there’s also always a price to pay in the long run. There’s no substitute for taking the time to build a great site, with high quality content, that builds gradually over time into a true authority on your subject matter. Don’t be afraid to optimize. There are some powerful optimization techniques you can use that Google permits and will gladly reward you with. Focus on building a great site, and staying within the rules, and your short term reward will be peace of mind. Your long term reward will be loads of free search engine traffic, and the respect that comes with doing things the old fashioned way… with hard work and patience. energize your article marketing

Wednesday, October 20th, 2004

Energizing your article marketing strategies in not only applicable when you notice that your numbers are going down, it is also a must even if your numbers are doing well. You can’t simply sit back and relax as you have tough competition out there and you must always make it a point that you have what it takes to get ahead of the pack so you can stay on top of the game. Here are the 5 compelling methods to energize your article marketing: 1. Offer unique, fresh content. You know, this is one element that will truly set you apart from the rest. Right now, most article marketers seem to be satisfied with offering their readers with articles that were just rehashed or rewritten. To make your copies more valuable to the eyes of your readers, make sure that you touch on topics or issues that are not yet discussed or seldom discussed online. When you are able to give these people fresh information, they will surely see you as a great source of information. 2. Widely distribute your articles. While it is true that manually submitting your articles to hundreds of submission sites can take so much time, it is beneficial for your marketing technique so you can get more inbound links for your website. If you don’t have the time, you can simply hire someone who can post your articles for you or get yourself an automatic submission tool. 3. Start your articles with killer titles. To easily increase your open rate, make it a habit to use attention-grabbing titles that can help you get online users to take a closer look on your articles. Your titles must be well-written, striking, and well thought-out, direct to the point, and relatively short. 4. Offer useful and valuable information. This can dramatically increase your conversion rate and this can increase the chances of your articles being widely republished. Make your articles worth reading and worth sharing by loading them up with information that can be useful and valuable to the lives of your readers. You can offer a slice of your knowledge to help them out with their problems or share some trade secrets. 5. Create interesting article summaries. Along with your titles, you can use these summaries as your baits in luring online users to open and read your articles.
