some important hair extensions a dramatic changegetting started in column writing

Friday, September 30th, 2005

You’ve written many articles for Websites, newsletters and now you’ve even conquered the territory of getting published in a magazine. What’s the next step, you ask? How to I make the editor ask for my work weekly or monthly? Enter: the column. Before you march up to an editor’s office or send her unsolicited mail asking to write regularly for a publication, learn all there is to know. A column is written weekly, monthly or bi-monthly, and must be focused on one particular topic. You have to be consistent in what you write, maintain the same tone of voice, and stay focused on the issue at hand. If you’re writing a column for the writing parent, don’t delve into issues of parenting in general. Your readers will probably be parents who write, and they will be more interested in learning how to find time for their writing, rather than how to take care of their children. A column can last from three to four months to ten or maybe even twenty. I know of a writer who wrote a column in a leading daily for more than twenty years. When you decide to write a column, make sure that the topic you choose is of interest to readers and will keep them coming back for more, week after week. If your topic is boring or uninteresting, chances are you’ll have no readers, and the editor will soon wrap up your column with a short goodbye note. Make sure that you can keep the commitment. Writing a column takes more than just a bright idea and good writing. It needs dedication, discipline and the ability to meet deadlines. If you can’t meet deadlines, you’ll soon be out of a job, and out of the publication

someone stop this merrygoround an alcoholic family in crisis

Friday, September 30th, 2005

Many of us have had a spouse or family member arrive home after a few too many drinks. Some of us have needed to make up excuses for a loved one’s occasional over-drinking. Imagine if this was a daily occurrence. Waiting, worrying, and watching the clock, wondering when, and in what state, a spouse would finally come home, and then trying to hide it all from neighbors, family and the children. For seventeen years, this was author Alberta H. Sequeira’s existence every day as she dealt with her husband’s alcoholism. She loved mild-mannered Richard Lopes and witnessed how alcohol changed him from a loving family man with a successful business to a careless, angry, abusive drunk. Written like dramatic fiction, Someone Stop This Merry-Go-Round: An Alcoholic Family in Crisis is a fast paced, tension-filled account of a woman’s tireless effort to keep her family together, her two children safe and to protect her own mental and physical well being. Sequeira gives an honest telling of life married to an alcoholic-a life filled with sadness, fear, pain and despair. Sequeira didn’t believe in divorce and was too proud to seek help from her parents, deciding to go it alone. Several times it seemed her husband was ready to quit his devastating lifestyle and commit fully to being a good partner and devoted father, only to have him fall back to bingeing and his alcoholic ways. This rollercoaster life took its toll on Sequeira, plaguing her with frequent panic attacks and eventually bringing her to the brink of a total breakdown. Through arguments, unpaid bills, violent rage, emotional abuse and neglect, Sequeira kept hope that her husband would eventually realize he had a problem, and seek treatment. He never did…always believing he was just having a few drinks with his buddies after a hard day’s work. Sequeira takes her share of the blame for all the times she could have kicked him out, demanded he got help, or pressed charges for the abuse. I found myself cheering for her, hoping that in the end Mr. Lopes would choose to save his marriage and his family. Despite being divorced from Mr. Lopes, Sequeira suffered greatly when he succumbed in 1985 to the damage done to his body from a lifetime of drinking. Alberta H. Sequeira is a talented writer. She shows great courage not only in surviving, but in her willingness to return to these experiences when she wrote this memoir. I believe this book could be of great help to alcoholics, their families and even counselors. I highly recommend Someone Stop This Merry-Go-Round: An Alcoholic Family in Crisis and I look forward to the follow-up coming soon. The sequel, Please, God, Not Two-This Killer Called Alcoholism details how Sequeira’s daughter, Lori Cahill, followed the same path as her father. 978-0741454157 Alberta H. Sequeira.com

things bogans like website celebrates australias newage bogan

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

BOOST Juice, Christian Audigier and ed hardyclothes have replaced the flannelette shirt, black thongs and a cold can of VB as the ultimate bogan accessories. Based on the popular American website and book Stuff White People Like, a new Aussie site, Things Bogans Like, charts the shift from the stereotypical bogan to the cashed-up Aussie who is more likely to be found wearing an ed hardy clothing T-shirt than a wife-beater. The authors of the site, self-described snobs, have ignored ugh boots, mullet cuts and the Bathurst 1000 - the conventional bogan staples. Instead, the new-age bogan loves of “getting huge” (at the gym), Contiki tours and Boost Juice bars top the list, The Sunday Telegraph reports. Also on the list are popular emerging habits such as “misspelling kids’ names”, and naming babies after high-end brands such as Mercedes, Armani and Christian Louboutin. “The end result of all this creativity is that instead of five Adams in a class(room) attempting to distinguish themselves from each other, there are now Riley, Reilly, Rhylie, Rylee, Ryley and Rylie getting into stoushes over whose dad has the biggest flatscreen,” it says. The site claims there is also a marketing catch cry that draws a bogan like a moth to a light bulb — “no deposit, no interest, no repayments for 18 months”. But some traditional bogan behaviour has remained on the list, such as refusing to read a book until the film has been released and the penchant for decorating the home with stolen bar mats and street signs. The site also takes aim at families who decorate their homes with religious icons but don’t follow the religion. “What better way to announce one’s entry into the knowledge economy than by purchasing a Buddhism-themed figurine, statue or water feature from the garden section of Kmart,” it says. And the emergence of the female bogan is singled out. A tattoo on the small of a woman’s back, also known as a “tramp stamp” or “slag tag”, is listed as a known indicator. Bogan is a term coined to refer to people who are, or are perceived to be, of a lower-class background. The site has a Twitter profile and a Facebook page and uses a photo of notorious AFL player Brendan Fevola as its profile picture. Six Melbourne men calling themselves Michael Jayfox, E. Chas McSween, Intravenus DeMilo, Ben Chapleski, Hunter McKenzie-Smythe and Lance Romance claim responsibility for the site.

get rich from writing articles and content

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

10 years ago, I would have never imagine I would be making a six figure income with my writing. In the long run, the long hours of pecking at my keyboard and hounding for clients online finally paid off. It is possible to get rich from writing articles and content. Some writers find themselves not making enough to make ends meet because they don’t know the right resources or methods to earning a full time income writing for the web! Here is how to do it: Find a high paying market- There are different markets of writing online, but if you can find one that interests and has many writing clients at the same time, you could benefit from this. The more clients you have scouting for your articles, the more work you can get. From what I am seeing, some high paying markets include health, technology, consumer reports/reviews and science. These are the topics most webmasters are paying more from. I suggest picking one or more of these categories and writing for them, then marketing you content to these site owners. Write original content that is geared towards certain keywords (more and more site owners are paying more money for SEO articles). Write for third-party sites- Third party writing sites are popping up all over the place. It is best to stick with ones who have established a reputation for themselves. Some examples I can think of is Constant-Content and Dailyarticle.com. You will not make a lot of sales at the beginning but some writers have claimed they have built a pretty good client base over time. Some third-party writing sites will not make you a lot of money such as Associated Content. Their average pay is $2-$3 per article and as you know, your fingers will bleed before you can make a decent income with those wages. Write Reviews- Writing reviews for your own website is a good idea if you want to bring in traffic to a money site. Many people like to see what others are saying about products before they invest in them. If one person finds a review on your website, they might publish that same review on other sites and make it viral, thus you will get more promotion. Some examples of sites that allow this is Goarticles.com. Greeting cards- Writing greeting cards is simple, fun and easy. Since most greeting card companies do not advertise when they need writers (most of them do), you will need to approach them. This can be done by emailing them through their contact email on their website. Make a lot of samples and publish them on your own website. Or, you can go through a third party site like Zazzle.com and sale your greeting cards to them directly. They can purchase them in bulk or separately. graphology at home lesson 14h the letters n and o

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

N The letter n and the capital N are overshadowed, in terms of importance, by the letter M. We usually find that the way the writer writes the beginning and the endstrokes of the n will be like that of the m. The m and n have the same form and therefore, the same meaning. The m is usually written in the form of an arcade, and likewise the n. O • Picture the letter ‘o’ as a closed oval-at the top; it shows a person who is secretive. The degree of closedness of the oval letters reflects the degree of closedness in the person. • When we use the expression “oval letter,” we mean a, o, the middle zones of g and d, or any other letter containing an oval shape. • The knotted letter ‘o’ indicates great secrecy. When there is more than one knot or when the oval is “double knotted,” the need for privacy is even more powerful. This form often appears in the handwriting of criminals, who obviously lock themselves in with these knots so (they feel) they will not be found out. When knotted ovals appear throughout the handwriting, we often find a paranoid personality. This person feels that somebody out there is against him and he must lock himself in for protection. • Naturally, the more closed the ovals, the more introverted the individual. When one makes a knot or loop (especially double ones), it means that the letter was not closed tightly enough for the writer. By going over it, he convinces himself that he has plugged all the “leaks.” • When the oval is open, the opposite of the closed oval is revealed. Its openness at the top indicates talkativeness, sincerity. The writer is not bottled up but is thoroughly extroverted. • We often see reclined (leftward) writing with open ovals. Although reclined writing hints at withdrawal and reserve, there is no contradiction. When such a writer is approached, though by nature reserved, he is nonetheless able to respond. By contrast, the reclined writer with closed ovals is usually unable to come out of his shell at all. • On the other hand, where the writing is inclined (rightward) but the ovals are closed, we see a person who is really warm, but when exposed to certain situations, in public or private, he closes up and does not know what to say. This is not because he is cold-he is merely subject to an unreasoning fear of the particular person or thing with which he is faced. When opened oval-shaped letters at the top appear with inclined writing, we often find the broad-minded individual. This writer is sincere, but it would be advisable not to tell him any important secrets; it is difficult for him to keep confidences. If there are some open and some closed ovals, then he probably can be trusted with a secret, since he knows how to hold his tongue when it’s important. • Imagine the ‘o’ that really looks like an e, but it’s not. If you try to copy it, you will see nothing unnecessary in the writing. It has a beginning stroke and an end stroke, the letter itself inside may pass for an o. Unlike the regular ‘o’, which is usually written in two motions-a counter-clockwise swoop, forming a complete circle, followed by an end stroke-this letter is written in a single motion. This writer has a way of avoiding extra effort. • Consider the oval, which is open but looped. This writer sets traps. He is also very shrewd. When he opens his mouth (ovals reflect the mouth in shape) and speaks in a way that appears to be open and honest, he is trying to lure you into something. Once you agree, the trap (loops) snaps shut. Joel Engel is the author of “Handwriting Analysis Self-Taught” (Penguin Books). article writing secrets for the successful writer

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

Every job has its secrets, which are well guarded by the professionals in the field. To be successful you should know these secrets and use them well. Writing articles is no exception. There are many article writing secrets that anyone who wants to excel in writing articles should know. The most interesting thing about these article writing secrets is that they are mostly the very basic things that get ignored by those who are looking for information. Your content must be rich The first article writing secret is that you should provide rich content in your articles. The content in your articles should be concise and to the point. Readers are looking for information to solve a problem. The faster the information is provided, the better. There are many other people with the same information. The only way to keep your reader is to give him/her what he/she wants. Research your topics The second article writing secret is research. The reader is not interested in what everybody knows about. They want further knowledge. The good writer should be able to research about topics in order to provide in-depth information to the reader. If you don’t have enough knowledge, don’t rush and write. Even for the very common topics, you need to research to find out what others have discovered. Plan before you write The third article writing secret is a good plan. Articles are like buildings. Just as you cannot build a house without first making a plan, you cannot write articles without first planning how it should look like. You should determine the length of the article before you start writing. You should know the points you will be discussing in the various paragraphs. You should even determine the number of paragraphs right from the beginning. Use subheading The use of subheadings is another article writing secret. Every paragraph should have a subheading. It is also possible to have two paragraphs under one subheading, especially when one paragraph is getting too long. The average length of most article paragraphs published on the web should be about 75 words. If the paragraph is getting beyond 100 words it should be divided into two. Your language must be good Good language is yet another article writing secret. You should have a good command over the language in which you write. There are many articles on the web in such abysmal language that you wonder if anyone goes beyond the titles. Avoid article generation software Another article writing secret, which is related to language is editing and proofreading. Read over your articles and correct the mistakes before you post it. Your word processor should have enough tools to help you with this. Don’t be in a rush to publish. It is advisable that you wait for at least a day before you do your proofreading. The last article writing secret you should know is that you must avoid article generation software. They will never give you any good content. It is better to have one good article under your name than have ten bad ones all over the place. the basics of article marketing and article writing

Friday, September 23rd, 2005

Want to know how to increase publicity for your website, in a sure and steady way? You may not realize it but many website operators use the same trick to generate traffic for virtually nothing. Which is? Write content-rich and focused articles and submit to directory sites, other people’s sites and ezines. This process is called article writing and article marketing. Now, why would an ezine publisher or website owner want to post your targeted articles on their websites or use your articles for their mailing lists? The answer is that not many can produce tons of content that is specific and focused. And tons of high quality content helps to build traffic to their sites and loyal subscribers to their mailing lists. Here is where your article comes in. In exchange for a byline and a link to your site (called a “resource box”), you allow website owners to use your content as it is. No one is allowed to make any changes to your article without your permission. Here are some other advantages for article writing and article marketing: * Gain “Expert” Status when you share your knowledge and expertise. Just look at the people who write newspaper columns. You get to appear like an expert when your articles are posted in a couple of article directory websites and when you write on a variety of topics pertaining to the same niche area. * You can do some nifty preselling. This is especially if your article appeals to a niche audience hungry for some specific information. That way, you’ve already presold yourself, when they click over to your site. * You get more links to your site. Then, you’d be able to enhance your search engine positioning just by your “link popularity”. Once your article is posted on another person’s website or an article directory, it is likely that it will stay there for a long time. * You are providing an excellent tool to help your affiliates. Your affiliates are likely to promote you more often and more effectively compared to those who don’t provide such help. * It is also excellent for building an opt-in email list. Statistics show that on average, a prospect visits your website seven times before clicking a buy order. A constant stream of emails (with his/her permission) at regular intervals can help break down “defences” and build relationships. In addition, once the relationship is build, back end sales or sales of other products and services become easier. So, do you need to have a flair for writing in order for you to write? Absolutely not. You just need to remember just two simple rules: * Put down your thoughts naturally. Just like how you would explain to a friend about this subject over a cup of tea. * Write simply. Bad grammar does not help. Complicated sentences and sentences that go on and on forever may not help you get your message across. So make your article an easy read. Now, what is an easy way to get started on writing? Think of key problems that your audience is likely to have and then write an article that provides the solution. A few key examples here should help kick-start your writing: 10 ways to help you….. 5 extremely useful resource tips that you should know about…. 7 time saving tips to…. 1 breakthrough tips that….. You can organize your article in this manner: an introduction (you can identify the problems that your readers are facing and your own short story or experiences), the list of points (the “solution”) and a concluding paragraph (asking your readers to take some action). After you finished writing, get someone to vet through your article. Alternatively, you can wait some time later and take a look at your article again. Improve it and check for grammar and spelling . Then, it’s time for article marketing. Submit your article to article announcement lists and article directories. In your submission, make sure your articles comply with specific guidelines required by the publisher. Article marketing can generate visitor traffic to your website as your articles get published and syndicated across the world. As you write and submit more articles, traffic to your site will definitely pick up speed! how to start writing your resume ask the right questions

Wednesday, September 21st, 2005

If you hire a professional resume writer to help you - and I’m not suggesting that you should. That would be far too self-serving, but you would probably come away with a document that can help you open doors. On the other hand, f you write it yourself, you could benefit from asking yourself some tough questions that may help you gain a better understanding of yourself and the role that a job plays in your life. This is an article about asking yourself important questions, as you write a resume and search for a job. These processes are difficult but they are valuable opportunities for self-reflection. What Do You Want to Do? The ideal job for one person is agony for the next. If you don’t enjoy your work, you’re wasting your life. Though many people may not savor their jobs, you don’t have to join them. In fact: They may not be trying hard enough. They may have wound up in a position they merely tolerate because they never made a real effort to do better. The check pays the bills, job momentum consumes their time and energy, and even though they know they can do better, they never do. The years go by and life slips past. They may be unable to do exactly what they like. Not everyone can be a professional marine biologist, for instance. But that doesn’t mean you have to flip burgers. You can always find work that comes closer to your ideal. And you can explore professions. The variety of positions seems infinite and you can learn about them, or go entrepreneurial and create your own. They may not quite know what they like. People can end up channeled into careers without ever quite consulting what they really want to do. Often they’ll take a job just because they like the pay or prestige. Pay and prestige are important, but they aren’t everything. To get a better bead on what you really like, ask yourself: What are my passions? What work would I do if I didn’t need to earn a living? What issues do I care deeply about? What skills do I love using? Who am I? Do I like to follow or lead? Do I work better with others or independently? Is supervision help or a harness? Do I fear risk or love a challenge? Would I be more comfortable as a team member or an entrepreneur? What Do You Want the Position to Do for You? It’s one thing to know what you want to do and another to know what you want your job to do for you. Look at yourself, your career, and your goals. Your goals may well have changed in say, the past ten years ago. Ask yourself: How much money do I need or want? How much power and responsibility do I need or want? How much do I like playing a role in important, high-adrenalin events? How much organizational pressure do I want? How structured an environment? Do I prefer a large organization or a small one? A well-known one or a small but promising one? Is a legacy important to me? If so, have I positioned myself for it? How do I go about leaving change that others will benefit from? What Can I Do? Suppose you want to learn juggling. You try to juggle three balls and find you can’t do it. Do you give up, fearing the message of all those dropped balls, or persist through repeated failures to learn the art? In fact, no one can juggle three balls on the first try. Yet almost everyone can learn juggling. It just takes a willingness to aim a little higher and persist. People tend to underestimate what they can accomplish. They fear failure from attempting feats that may be beyond them, and so focus on tasks they know they can achieve. It can be a terrible error, a source of the biggest failure of all. Aim high and you may miss more often, but when you hit, you’ll achieve things that lowballers never do. No one ranks your success in life by the percentage of goals you reach. Imagine a minor leaguer who’s hitting .357 but refuses to go up to big leagues because his batting average could drop. Success comes in absolutes: How high are the goals you’ve achieved? Can you play in the big leagues at all? Of course, don’t be unrealistic. Don’t strive for a Nobel Prize in physics if you have trouble understanding quadratic equations. But aim higher than you think you can reach. You’ll find your quest feels sweeter and your life more energized. And you may even succeed.
