garden of souls by terry fulghama review

Monday, February 27th, 2006

The subtitle of Garden of Souls reads, “Fact or Fiction. You be the Judge.” Whether or not author Terry Fulgham based his book on a true story or from his imagination, it is a remarkable read. We meet Peter Knight and George Martin seconds after the end of the 1965 Michigan State Golden Gloves boxing tournament, Lt. Heavyweight title fight. Both young men feel battered and beaten. Each prepares to suffer a loss, only to learn that they will share the championship when the fight is declared a draw. Soon after, Peter enters law school and George goes to jail when he returns to his life of crime. Never close, the two are forever connected by the fight. George learns to accept that he actually lost the fight, while Peter can never acknowledge defeat to a two-bit criminal. George finds himself pitted against Peter again and again. First, when Peter is an upstart District Attorney and later, when Peter is a Judge. Peter never misses a chance to make George pay for the only defeat of Peter’s life. Years later, George is finally free of prison. He promises his family that he will give up his criminal lifestyle and never go back to jail. Meanwhile, the ambitious Peter positions himself for the Governor’s mansion. This sets up a rematch of sorts as the two meet once more in a climactic face to face. I believe this quick read, written much like a screenplay, could become a wonderful motion picture. Fulgham’s writing style is raw and emotional. He captivates readers with the potent and believable story of two intriguing yet very different characters. The ending packs a wallop and is sure to have you drying moist eyes. I highly recommend Garden Of Souls. If you enjoy great stories, pick up a copy at Lulu or Amazon…you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommended by reviewer WR Potter for Reader’s Choice Reviews. 5 Stars Garden Of Souls Lulu 2009 978-0-557-04918-9

what on earth is an ebook

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Those of us that spend far too much time tapping away at a computer keyboard, often take for granted that our readers are as current as we like to think we are. Take Ebooks, for instance! Conservation oriented folks (and really, that should be all of us) will be glad to know that an Ebook is not made up of dead, pulped trees, but rather, is nothing more than the author’s work, converted into a collection of electrons, which can then be viewed and read on a computer monitor. An Ebook can be downloaded from a web site, saved to one’s own computer, and then opened, stored away again, and then re-opened as often as desired, to be read when it’s convenient for the reader. At present, that reading will take place in front of a computer monitor though I don’t think it will be too many more years before we’re all carrying around electronic “readers” that will allow us to enjoy reading, eye strain free, the hundreds of Ebooks on all topics in the unit’s memory, all without felling a single tree to make paper. But Ebook readers are an article for another time. Are you a writer? Want to get published quickly and inexpensively? Let’s say you’ve written the next great story. For some reason, you’ve not been able to get a publisher interested in publishing your best seller, and the cost of self-publishing on paper far exceeds your budget. A low cost option is for you to publish an Ebook that contains your great story. How do you do that? Assuming that you’ve written your story using a computer rather than handwriting or typing it onto a piece of paper, the word processing program you’ve used will have enabled you to save the story in some sort of file. You can use that file and convert your story into a .pdf file format. A .pdf file is a Portable Document File (hence the acronym .pdf) which makes the document portable electronically. The .pdf can now be moved from computer to computer using the internet. Why publish your Ebook yourself? Converting your story or article into a .pdf file means that you can upload your own Ebooks to a website. Having your story or article as a .pdf on that site now makes it available to be downloaded by anyone in the world, either at no cost or for a fee, from that site. Further, by creating a professional looking .pdf, the author can offer the reader virtually any size of typeface, almost any font style, include full color photographs and links to other media, including sound and video files. Imagine, I’m reading your fantastic story and there’s a locale somewhere in the world that is pertinent to the storyline. You have added a link in the text that takes me, the reader, to a website giving me all the details needed about that locale, or even to the author’s own video or slideshow about that site. The process of creating an Ebook isn’t too complex though many authors will leave the technical side of publishing their Ebooks to others, preferring to concentrate on the writing rather than the publishing. You can have your Ebook formatted, photographs added, videos or sound links created, have it converted to .pdf format, and offered for sale on your own custom website for sale for a remarkably low sum of money. get help to write funeral speeches

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

Do not feel bad if you feel weird giving an aunt eulogy.Delivering a eulogy at any funeral can be stressful, especially if you are not used to public speaking. If there was a strong bond between you and the person who died, you are likely to have an even rougher time. There are a number of places on the world wide web that offer assistance if you are not familiar with writing an aunt eulogy. You should find a nice start for anything you need to say.You can use a generic speech or something more sensitive.Think back of special events that happened and insert them into the eulogy.Adding personal anecdotes and stories will give your eulogy a distinct personal feel. The eulogy will also allow you to state the reason this person was so loved by the people around them. Most of the websites that offer help for writing eulogies are free to use; however, some will require a small fee.You may feel better after finding help online either because you have adjusted to the shock or because you know you will say the right thing. It is usually a good idea to read the written out parts to someone in case you have overlooked anything. This special time calls for a well prepared piece, not just wahtever it is you can think of to spout off.It is true that this type of event is typically very sad, but you can still include recollections of happier times in the aunt eulogy. Aseem Gupta is a online reviewer of niche websites. To learn more about eulogies for an aunt or aunt eulogies, visit the website.

business for moms

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

Hello, my name is Nona Bochkareva. I have lived in the United States for a little bit over a decade. I would like to share a little bit about myself, as well as Forever Partnership Program (FPP) at .sportatlas.com Victoria Berks introduced me to this business, she has become my consultant, teacher, business partner, and just a good friend, you can rely on. When I learned that this company works on a multi level system, I immediately knew that there is great potential, and that I can earn and ensure the future for my family and I. Before FPP, I was familiar with two networking companies. The last company impressed me with their marketing plan, products, and the people who worked there. But my inability to sell their products stopped me from working there. I am grateful to this company for their excellent Natural products, which has helped me to restore my weight after the birth of my children, and above all, my health. So, I continued to look for other opportunities with multi marketing plans that did not require product inventory, selling of product, or going to the post office. Prior to the birth of children, I worked six years almost without any vacations, and now, thanks to my husband I have been a stay at home mom with my children for over 3.5 years. One year after the birth of my second daughter I felt as if I lacked grown up communication, I yearned education, and wanted a profession, but because my children are so small that seemed as if it weren’t going to happen anytime soon. I want to raise my children myself, I am their mother and I feel like I need to be with them. I looked through lots of options for home based businesses and finally found Other Opinion, Inc. Other Opinion, inc. is an American based company. It created an actively developing Forever Partnership Program (FPP), which then created .sportatlas.com The company’s distinctive features are: - Good curriculum - Friendly and professional people - Tow very different financial plans - Clear business plan - Opportunity to create your own business within the companies confinements - Monthly income - Opportunity for mothers to work and raise their children After I registered in May 2007, I began to study the business plans, and thus started working on creating my own business. The beauty of this business is that you don’t have to put forth any amount of currency in order to start. Registration and membership is absolutely FREE. I continue to get support and education from Victoria, and I communicate with Sergey Press (president of this company). Today I am successfully involved in two projects: - Business Plan “Web Content” - Business Plan “The Best Web Ads” In the beginning I was not required to know all there is to know about this business, nor was I required to know much about computers. As I went along I learned how to navigate on a computer and the basics, and in dept information about Other Opinion Inc. I thank God for this opportunity. For meeting people like Sergey Press, who created this business Forever Partnership Program (FPP), in which regular housewives can participate as well as business men/women. By going on our website and reading the material, and understanding the prospect and power of FPP you will understand that you are in the right place, and at the right time. I am Nona Bochkareva and I invite you to my FPP team. I will try to convey the information that was taught to me by the President of Other Opinion Inc. Sergey Press, as well as my sponsor Victoria Berks. Yours truly, Nona Bochkareva

no tattoos at school

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

Okay, I will admit I’m a little perturb this morning. I read an article this morning stating that a school is having a board meeting sometime this week regarding making a policy about their students HAVING to cover up their tattoos. However, there is some sweet justice to this it seems that the principle of the school doesn’t necessarily have a problem with his students having these tattoos, as long as they are not vulgar or obscene images. He stated that the decision for his students to have tattoos are up to the student and their parents not him. It was stated in this article that tattoos can fall under the dress code and if something is considered disruptive then the principle can take any kind of action he wishes. I think this is all hogwash. I mean schools make up ridiculous rules that students have to follow. Like for instance when I was in high school you were not allowed to wear tank tops. Yes, you heard me. We are not allowed to wear tank tops. I mean what possible reason could the school have for you not wearing a tank top? This is kind of how I feel about the whole tattoo thing. The students are not hurting anyone and I don’t really see how the tattoo can be disruptive. Yeah some students may stare at it and ask the student who has it about it but after that nothing is going to be said about the tattoo. In my opinion I think its just parents that have nothing else better to do and for some strange reason are living in the dark ages, because tattoos are ACCEPTED in this day and time, so get over it.

should i write my life story

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

Nearly 81 percent of people say they have a book inside them. It’s in their hearts, minds, and soul; but unfortunately, it never seems to develop in pen. Most of these people feel their life story or an event in their life is worthy of becoming a book

modern cell phones change so rapidly that they are superseded constantly

Friday, February 17th, 2006

Modern cell phones change rapidly so current models are constantly being superseded for a newer, improved version; new functions and services are being added on a regular basis. So you won’t get caught in a ‘decision trap’, become educated before you make your next phone purchase; some interesting buying facts are supplied in this article. Battery life is always an issue and even though they last longer (and are smaller), they have much more to do, so always leaving your phone until it is almost drained of power can cause problems. The result of this being done constantly means you may find yourself buying a new cell phone battery prematurely as your existing one is no longer holding a charge. There are several ways to prolong the life of your cell phone battery; Keep your back light off unless you know for sure you’ll need it and whilst this might be annoying at first it will save battery life. If you travel in areas where there is no coverage or there is only roaming coverage, turn your cell phone off completely to save battery power while trying to locate a network and in addition to this , try to limit the length of your conversations. Today’s cell phones have many more functions and if you spend a great deal of time surfing the Internet or listening to music, the battery deplete earlier than it should, possibly just when you need to use to speak to someone. Whilst downloading new ring tones and wallpaper is a great idea, many people are given free sample but forget they will be charged for the rest that are download automatically, sometimes without their knowledge. If you purchase one for your child, find out if you can block these features or find out if there’s a way that you as a parent can order features, but your child cannot. Cell phone plans are generally available where you pay only when it is used or through a contract that supplies a pre-agreed amount of minutes per month. It really does depend on the type of user you are as infrequent users benefit from the ‘pay per use’ plans. The price for each type of contract needs to be looked at carefully but as a general rule the more often you use the phone the more sensible a long term contract will be. Consider the features you want, as long-term plans often have more features for less money or even as a bonus, at no charge; so ask if all your features, such as caller ID, will work when roaming. Also with any plan, consider if long distance is included so find out the usual roaming charges, connection fees (if applicable), and if there are any other hidden fees in the plan. It is now common for people with long term contracts to have an insurance warranty included which will replace their phone if it is damaged, lost or stolen. This is more common than people think and the last thing you want is to be stuck with the bill for replacement. When buying cell phones online, be sure the phone is up-to-date and carries all the features you want. You can then visit a local store to purchase minutes or to sign up for a contract but just be sure you buy from a company you trust. There are times when I bet you curse the cell phone manufacturers because by constantly updating models, users become often become frustrated; additional services and features have transformed this very popular device. There is much misinformation out there, which needs to be looked at before buying a cellular phone; this article hopes to address the situation. Every user will occasionally experience the race against battery life as they try to use up every ounce of power there is before recharging. Unfortunately, this can cause many problems with your cell phone battery and could shorten the life of your battery between charges to the point where you’re charging more than you’re talking! There are several ways to prolong the life of your cell phone battery; Keep your back light off unless you know for sure you’ll need it and whilst this might be annoying at first it will save battery life. When the phone is operational, it is constantly searching for a signal which is ok when there is good signal strength but if this is lost, it still tries to find a signal using more power and draining the cell phone battery in the process; the same way that long conversations do. When ever you use your cell phone; talking, playing games, listening to music, taking picture with the flash or surfing the Internet, it will drain the battery faster so limit these activities otherwise you may not be able to make that urgent call you need. Whilst downloading new ring tones and wallpaper is a great idea, many people are given free sample but forget they will be charged for the rest that are download automatically, sometimes without their knowledge. Many children have run up huge debts with this facility without knowing so parents should ensure they have control over this feature. The two man types of agreements for cell phone users are pay-per use and a monthly contract which can run for one or two years but which option you decide upon will depend on how often you intend to use it. Only you will know how often you make calls and how long they are on average but the pay-per use agreement is probably not going to be the most cost effective if you are someone who uses the phone a great deal. Some features like tri-band or quad-band means they can be used in Europe and Asia but these may only be available with phones that are part of a long term agreement so look out for deals that will be of benefit to you. Pay attention to any hidden charges like penalties for early termination of the contract as some contracts can be costly to get out of. Don’t forget to find out what insurance cover you have if your new phone is lost or damaged. An insurance warranty is something that brings pace of mind when the chance of damaging or losing something so small is so easily done. If you decide to buy your cell phone on the Internet, make sure it is not an old or outgoing model unless you do not mind of course; otherwise you may find it doesn’t have all the features you want included.

pithy prose the wit wisdom of people named h

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

by Philip Yaffe Part 7 of an occasional series I am a collector of quotations. I have been ever since I learned how to write, I mean professionally, not in primary school. I am particularly fond of what I like to call “pithy prose”. These short quotations can cover an unlimited variety of subjects: love, religion, politics, human nature, etc. What unites them is their ability to say more in one or two sentences than could be expressed in a thousand-word treatise. It’s like being able to pour a liter of liquid into a half-liter bottle. They are superb examples of Mark Twain’s famous dictum, “The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.” In principle, all writers and public speakers are capable of producing pithy prose, but clearly some are better at it than others. Any collection of pithy prose must necessarily be biased in terms of what it includes and excludes. I make no apologies for my selections, only for the hundreds of other meritorious quotations I had to leave out. No one will agree with all these quotations; this was not their intention. You may even find some of them repugnant or outrageous. This was their intention. We seldom learn anything of value from what we already agree with. Only those ideas that grate on our nerves can open our minds. As with oysters, irritation can produce pearls. So if anything you are about to read annoys or shocks you, try to think clearly and dispassionately about what it is saying. You will either be confirmed in your current belief or shaken into re-examining it. Either way, you win! This article is part of an occasional series. In each article, I will be offering more amusing, educating, and exasperating quotations to your judgment. But just to be certain that we agree on what we are talking about, here it is in a nutshell. Pithy Prose: A quotation where at first you may not be quite certain what it means. But when you become certain, you become equally certain that it couldn’t have been said better any other way. In short, big ideas in small packages. If you have a better definition of pithy prose, please contact me. I would love to hear it. Who Are These People Named “H”? Some people, such as Oscar Wilde and Mark Twain, are pithy prose factories. During their careers they produced hundreds of quotations well worth remembering. Others produced only a handful, but these too are well worth preserving. This article is dedicated to the wit & wisdom of people with surnames beginning with the letter “H”. If you don’t recognize some of these people, it doesn’t matter. The source of timeless wit and wisdom is not important, only what it said. If you really want to know who some of these people are, look it up on the Web. That’s why it was invented. Nathaniel Hawthorne A pure hand needs no glove to cover it. Accuracy is the twin brother of honesty; inaccuracy, of dishonesty. Easy reading is damn hard writing. Every individual has a place to fill in the world and is important in some respect whether he chooses to be so or not. Life is made up of marble and mud. Moonlight is sculpture. Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind. You can get assent to almost any proposition so long as you are not going to do anything about it. Rutherford B. Hayes One of the tests of the civilization of people is the treatment of its criminals. Unjust attacks on public men do them more good than unmerited praise. Virtue is defined to be mediocrity, of which either extreme is vice. Ben Hecht A man nearly always loves for other reasons than he thinks. A lover is apt to be as full of secrets from himself as is the object of his love from him. In moderating, not satisfying desires, lies peace. Prejudice is a raft onto which the shipwrecked mind clambers and paddles to safety. Trying to determine what is going on in the world by reading newspapers is like trying to tell the time by watching the second hand of a clock. Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel Amid the pressure of great events, a general principle gives no help. Genuine tragedies in the world are not conflicts between right and wrong. They are conflicts between two rights. Mere goodness can achieve little against the power of nature. The learner always begins by finding fault, but the scholar sees the positive merit in everything. Heinrich Heine Atheism is the last word of theism. He only profits from praise who values criticism. I fell asleep reading a dull book and dreamed I kept on reading, so I awoke from sheer boredom. Matrimony; the high sea for which no compass has yet been invented. Sleep is good, death is better; but of course, the best thing would to have never been born at all. The men of action are, after all, only the unconscious instruments of the men of thought. There are more fools in the world than there are people. Robert A. Heinlein A society that gets rid of all its troublemakers goes downhill. Anyone who considers protocol unimportant has never dealt with a cat. Being right too soon is socially unacceptable. I never learned from a man who agreed with me. It is a truism that almost any sect, cult, or religion will legislate its creed into law if it acquires the political power to do so. Never insult anyone by accident. No statement should be believed because it is made by an authority. One man’s theology is another man’s belly laugh. The difference between science and the fuzzy subjects is that science requires reasoning while those other subjects merely require scholarship. Theology is never any help; it is searching in a dark cellar at midnight for a black cat that isn’t there. Theologians can persuade themselves of anything. Yield to temptation. It may not pass your way again. You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don’t ever count on having both at once. Lillian Hellman Belief is a moral act for which the believer is to be held responsible. Cynicism is an unpleasant way of saying the truth. God forgives those who invent what they need. I like people who refuse to speak until they are ready to speak. Lonely people, in talking to each other, can make each other lonelier. Nothing you write, if you hope to be good, will ever come out as you first hoped. People change and forget to tell each other. Ernest Hemingway All my life I’ve looked at words as though I were seeing them for the first time. All things truly wicked start from innocence. For a long time now I have tried simply to write the best I can. Sometimes I have good luck and write better than I can. Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know. Never confuse movement with action. Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime. There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed. Napoleon Hill A goal is a dream with a deadline. If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way. More gold has been mined from the thoughts of men than has been taken from the earth. Most great people have attained their greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure. Nature cannot be tricked or cheated. She will give up to you the object of your struggles only after you have paid her price. Persistence is to the character of man as carbon is to steel. The majority of men meet with failure because of their lack of persistence in creating new plans to take the place of those which fail. There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge. Julia Ward Howe I am confirmed in my division of human energies. Ambitious people climb, but faithful people build. I never could be good when I was not happy. Theology in general seems to me a substitution of human ingenuity for divine wisdom. Beneath all differences of doctrine or discipline there exists a fundamental agreement as to the simple, absolute essentials in religion. William Dean Howells Some people can stay longer in an hour than others can in a week. The book which you read from a sense of duty, or because for any reason you must, does not commonly make friends with you. The secret of the man who is universally interesting is that he is universally interested. Wisdom and goodness are twin-born, one heart must hold both sisters, never seen apart.
