Thursday, March 30th, 2006

There are four different ways that audience members assimilate information. They are: visual, auditory, auditory digital, and kinesthetic. While all members of the audience will process information utilizing all four of these approaches at different times, each audience member will individually tend to rely on one of these approaches more than the other three. There are four different ways that audience members assimilate information. They are: visual, auditory, auditory digital, and kinesthetic. While all members of the audience will process information utilizing all four of these approaches at different times, each audience member will individually tend to rely on one of these approaches more than the other three. Visual: These people memorize and learn by seeing pictures and are less distracted by noise than others. They often have difficulty remembering and are bored by long, verbal presentations because their minds will wander. They are interested in how your presentation looks. They like it when you use words like “see, look, envision, imagine, and picture” in your presentation as these words encourage them to make pictures in their minds. Auditory: These people are easily distracted by any noises occurring during your presentation. Typically these audience members learn by listening, Your vocal tone and vocal quality will be very important with these people. Words that work well with people in this category include “hear, listen, sound, resonate, and harmonize.” Auditory Digital: These audience members spend a fair amount of time in their heads talking to themselves. They memorize and learn by steps, procedures, and sequences. They want to know that your presentation makes sense. Words that are effective with these people include “sense, experience, understand, think, motivate, and decide.” Kinesthetic: These audience embers often speak very slowly. They are much more oriented towards their feelings than people in the other three categories. They learn by actively doing something and getting the actual feeling of it. They are interested in a presentation that “feels right” or gives them a “gut feeling.” Words that are effective with these audience members include “feel, touch, grasp, concrete, get hold of, and solid.” Approximately 40% of the population are primarily visual, approximately 40% are primarily kinesthetic, and the remaining 20% are primarily auditory and auditory digital in how they process information. meet horror author george wilhite

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

I aspire to create quality supernatural fiction and dark fantasy–steeped in the traditions of Poe and Lovecraft! I have been an aficionado of the horror genre most of my life. The fascination began as a child, staying up late and watching “Creature Features” late at night with my father. I grew up in one of the golden eras of horror films–Hammer Horror was in full swing and as I grew older the iconoclasts came on the scene–Carpenter, Craven and Argento. Weekends at the drive-ins (often the only venues that would show these features) were a mainstay of my early adult life. Meanwhile, I was reading constantly (as I still do) all the masters of horror, working my way through the entire canon of Poe and Lovecraft multiple times. Harlan Ellison and EC Comics, and later Stephen King were also a main ingredient of my literary diet. I was introduced to Tolkien and Stephen R. Donaldson at an early age as well and also enjoy Epic Fantasy. In college, I was a scholar of both literature and film studies, and my master’s thesis was a study of the psychological state of the horror film spectator and horror novel reader. Though I still am required to maintain full-time employment, I spend most of my spare time writing short stories, novellas and screenplays. Accomplishments: Master’s Degree, American Literature, Sonoma State University Featuring: On the Verge of Madness by George Wilhite In the traditions of Poe and Lovecraft, these eight stories of horror and dark fantasy explore the title theme, each finding a protagonist on the verge of madness. The novella, “Victor Chaldean and the Portal” and the following story, “Murmurers” are both the first in a series of tales involving the same characters. These works also introduce the reader to “The Tales of the Fractured Realms,” a dark fantasy cosmology from which Wilhite plans to offer us many stories, novellas and novels in the future. Another selection, “The Gangster’s New Clothes,” has recently been optioned for the podcast .welltoldtales.com. Review: “I wake up in a world of utter silence…” All of us are haunted by something–our pasts, fear of our futures, even the memory of a departed loved one. The questions remain: Do we let these demons that haunt us destroy us? Do we let them make us obsess? Do we surrender to them? Do we let them to take us to the brink? Do we fight them or do we stay on the knife’s edge? And how long can you stay On the Verge of Madness…? George Wilhite is an author with which Spinetinglers is well acquainted. His stories have been published on our site several times and have received some rave reviews from our members. So, of course we were delighted to review his first compilation of short stories. All of the stories have the same resounding theme: each main protagonist is, in some way, obsessed or haunted by someone or something. In short, all of the characters are On the Verge of Madness. The first two stories, Victor Chaldean and the Portal and Murmurers, are terrifically tantalising teasers as to what this author has to offer. Both stories are fractured tales of another world beyond our own, where the souls of the dead have tales to tell and vengeance to seek. The reader can clearly see the influence of Poe and Lovecraft, and this horror author has obviously read the classics. I can’t wait for the continuation of both of these stories in his next book. The rest of Wilhite’s tales stand on their own, and apart from the On the Verge of Madness theme, they have few similarities. This, of course, is a very good thing, because when trying to stick to a common theme, a lot of authors can fall into a trap and tell you ten or so versions of the same story. The result is a reading experience that can be quite boring for the audience. On the contrary, Wilhite’s stories are original, dark and devilishly distinctive. Apart from great Gothic literature, the author also gives you an insight into his process. He tells you in some detail what inspired him to write such a first-rate anthology. This may offer some burgeoning authors tips and inspiration to spark their imagination. George Wilhite’s On the Verge of Madness is a commendable selection of short stories. Our only criticism, if you can call it that, is that some of the stories are too short. There is definitely room to expand on these wonderfully crafted tales. Spinetinglers wants to see more from this author! 5.0 out of 5 stars Runner Up in Spinetinglers Book of the Year 2008, March 26, 2009 By Spinetinglers “Spinetinglers Publishing” (Belfast, UK) Book Details: Genre: Horror Paperback: 152 pages Publisher: Lulu.com (June 3, 2008) Language: English ISBN-10: 1435719654 ISBN-13: 978-1435719651 George Wilhite

how to write a brilliant resume

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

A job resume is a one- to two-page written document summing up your career objectives, professional experiences, accomplishments, and educational background. The heading of the resume should contain your name, address and contact information. The structure of the resume should be broken down into the following segments: vocation objective, profile/summary, professional experience, achievements, scholastics, and references. Your career objective should be brief, up to two sentences; it should present your potential employers an idea of how you would like to proceed forward in your business life. A brief profile or a summary should discuss who you are and how your skills and background experience is most beneficial to the line of work you’re interested in. The summary, in addition to other portions of your resume, shouldn’t comprise of personal data that divulges ethnicity, sexual orientation, marital status, age, living situations, or any other personal fact that’s not directly connected to your occupation. Personal profile/summary should exclusively comprise of a couple of literary sentences that express what you will be able to add to the table in terms of the particular task. Utilize this section to draw the employer’s attention, only don’t go overboard in attempting to be creative

the idealistic criticism of naturalism

Friday, March 24th, 2006

The current criticism of naturalism deserves attention, for those who desire to establish an adequate naturalism must heed the objections in the controversial literature. The whole truth was by no means on the side of the older naturalism, even though it did not reside in the camp of idealism (spiritualism) either. What is desirable is not eclecticism but a thorough overhauling of assumptions. In the main, the chief objections to naturalism of the traditional sort fall under four headings: (1) The denial that the higher can be reduced to the lower without a remainder of supreme importance; (2) The claim that description is not explanation; (3) The existence of gaps in nature disastrous to naturalism; and (4) The refutation of realism, or, as it was usually called, dualism. We shall admit that there is much truth in the contention that the older naturalism sought to oversimplify by reduction, and we shall try to indicate the historical reasons for this mistake reasonably, without any petition writing. Probably they reduce to two: the nonage of the biological sciences and the continued dominance of the kinetic conception of all physical processes. The idea of evolution was either unknown or its full implications unappreciated. The first tentative efforts at the application of the idea of evolution were wooden in the extreme. The fact of the matter was that the various connective sciences between physics and politics had not yet sufficiently developed to reach hands across to one another. Naturalism desired continuity between the various apparent levels of nature, but at first could conceive it only as meaning that the higher is nothing but the lower. But supernaturalism-and idealism was often ready to give it comfort-was friendly to the idea of discontinuity. The one wished to achieve continuity by a rough and dogmatic reduction; the other to establish discontinuity. The conditions of an adequate naturalism had not yet been reached. The claim that description is not explanation itself needs explanation. To explain an occurrence is to give its why, the cause or conditions out of which it sprung. Explanation is frequently thought of as a reference of events to an unseen essence or productive activity. When explanation is so conceived, the work of science is said to be detailed description of things and events as research presents them to our minds. It is in some ways knowledge about the physical world. Explanation of events must rest for us in such descriptive knowledge about their conditions and setting; and the logic of investigation must convince us that there is an essential fidelity to reality in such descriptive explanation. The assumption that such description as characterizes modern science is arbitrary in anything else than the symbols used, is agnostic and unjustified. There are different logical levels of description which become evident in starting a petition. What these critics of scientific explanation have in mind is as follows. We cannot intuit nature so as to appreciate the inner necessity which moves things to act as they do. Perhaps it would be better to speak of the inner expression of things of which their behavior is a function. Laws give knowledge about things in relation but no living glimpse into their counsels. To say that A attracts B is to say that B approaches A. But can we sense this attraction, this dynamic continuity which has this result? Assuredly not. Hence science does not really explain. What these critics of scientific explanation have in mind is, so far as it seems, something as follows. We cannot intuit nature so as to appreciate the inner necessity which moves things to act as they do. Perhaps it would be better to speak of the inner expression of things of which their behavior is a function. But can any other discipline penetrate to the veritable process of change? Only the idealist makes this assumption, and he claims to achieve this ideal by analogy. Cause is desire and will. That may be, yet the scientist may well reply that what explains every event explains none. Scientific explanation with its specificity and genuine knowledge about things is as necessary and as valid as ever.

throat grabbing sales letter

Friday, March 24th, 2006

Conceptually, writing a sales letter is one of the most difficult things the average person can try to do when starting any kind of online business. The thing about it is, when that same person applies these seven tricks, writing a sales letter can become as simple as writing an email to a friend here they are. Read other sales letters. Seems simple enough but countless people I’ve interviewed over the years have this one fault in common. They don’t read other sales letters. It’s like trying to ride a bike without ever putting your but on a bicycle and riding it. Is it possible? No and neither is learning to write a sales letter without reading and understanding how sales letters are written or visit .the-gurus-apprentice.com Swipe other sales letters. I’ll probably get a tongue lashing for this but who cares! From junk mail that comes in the form of sales letters or those little booklets are really a sales letter in disguise in the mail you can start a swipe file of your own. Then save all the pages of websites that are trying to sell similar products or even non-similar products. You’ll know a sales letter when you see one. Save them on a folder called “Swipes.” Read through these and look for language patterns and phrases you can use and edit to suit your product or service. Start Writing headlines. Headlines are the most important elements of any sales message or sales letter. Write between 10 and 50 headlines per sales letter following the A.C.E.S. principle. Attention, Curiosity, Excitement, Specificity. TO learn more about A.C.E.S. search on Google for an article called, “How to Write a Headline That Converts More Visitors into Customers.” Write to a friend. In other words, write your sales letter as if you are writing an emotional letter to your best friend about your product or service. Keep writing and don’t stop to correct mistakes until you can’t write any longer. If you use informal language, so be it. Anything that makes your sales letter seem more personal will make it more compelling. Write short sentences and paragraphs. Keeping your paragraphs short and simple will help you to increase the readership of your sales letter; The easier it looks to read the more likely they are to read it and buy your product! People are lazy, make it easy. Please note…I didn’t say, make your sales letter short, I said, “keep your sentences short.” Use subheads. Subheads are like mini headlines. Heck, many of them ARE in fact headlines that you wrote earlier. Just make sure they work seamlessly with your copy. Subheads are used to break up long copy and drag people deeper into your words. Especially people who are skimming your copy, online, it is also a way to relax the eye and give your sales letter more ‘optical appeal’. Subheads can be compelling statements, confusing statements or positive reinforcing statements about your product or service you can log on .killer-sales-letters.com Use a P.S. or two at the end of your sales letter. Two of the most important places on any sales letter and the two that get read most often are the headline and the P.S. It seems strange, but the truth is, like I said earlier, “People are lazy!” Many just don’t have the time or patience to read your sales letter so they read you’re Headline and if it’s interesting to them, they read your Poss.’s so make sure you restate your offer in your P.S. and you also, apply a scarcity tactic to get your reader to take action immediately. These seven tricks are by no means an exhaustive list of sales letter writing methods but they can and will help you improve your copy and improve your product sales at breakneck speed. Apply them today and profit fast!

fake data entry jobs

Friday, March 24th, 2006

Increasing popularity of data entry jobs, filling out forms and typing jobs online is leading to more and more scams. If you are looking for this type of job do your homework first. When applying through email for a proof reader, be sure you don’t send an email with typos. You are looking for a data entry job, so the first step is to send out an email RIGHT. You are the Resume and your email is the qualification and first proof if you are capable to do the job. Don’t send out an email like this: “Yeah, I’d like to get more information” or “What’s the pay?” First explain why you are the right person for this job and your interest in this topic. Don’t exaggerate too much, be specific. Also be prepared to receive request for a sample writing. This can either be proof reading, transcription job, grammar writing, etc. A good website for finding jobs like these is eLance. Usual Requirements: a) Working Computer b) Word, Wordpad, Notepad c) Internet How To spot A Scam? 90% of data entry jobs are scams. The Scammed individuals are most of the time mommies who want to be at home with their children. There are legit jobs, more or less those are a rarity in such a big scam industry. If your work-giver from the company you are applying to requires you any fee it is most definitely a scam. You will NEVER have to pay a real contractor a fee. You are working for them, so why would you be paying them? In your normal 9-5 job are you paying your boss? Stop the conversation here and discontinue any further discussion. These contractors will tell you to : a) Send $ for training b) Send $ for software c) Send $ for supplies or material If they don’t ask you for a sample writing, resume or any other document, proof on which you could be judged “good” or “bad” for the job, and only require ANY sort of FEE for the application it is a SCAM! Period. Many websites can be so convincing you could fall for it quite easily, but this is the scammers intention and professionalism. To convince you of something real while in fact it is unreal, not existing. Usually the supposed fees are being used for a “special software” to perform the job. A legit business will provide you typing software for free and will in no case require any funds to be sent.

how do you feel about having your writing evaluated

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

If that brought up a yucky feeling in the pit of your stomach you may have some issues left over from school where you dreaded the evaluation of the teacher and the grade you were getting or might be getting on the paper you turned in for the assignment. In addition to dreading the result of the grade, it often brought up an opportunity to be laughed at or ridiculed by classmates.  None of these things gives a good feeling so avoidance of situations that might even suggest these feelings seems high on many prospective writers lists or for that matter any persons list of things they choose to experience.Left over stuff clogs our life in many areas. In your writing it stops you from doing it and letting other people look at it for fear they might criticize, laugh when you did not mean for it to be funny and ridicule you for writing or trying to write.Quite an uncomfortable situation so many just continue to talk about the book they will write one day and never actually do anything about it.  So, if you are reading this article, where are you on the scale of being concerned about what others might say?  If your rating is on the high side read on…This is the time for Do Overs.  By that I mean looking at your writing and seeing what can be changed to bring another result when it is read the next time by another person.  With the tools we have in place with word processing, the delete key and replacing sentences with copy and paste it really is easy to try on another way to say that sentence and if you like it you can keep it, if not you can hit the undo key and the original sentence comes back. I find trying on different combinations very rewarding and often discover there was a different way to say what I was trying to communicate that made the writing clearer to the reader and made the point better than my first sentence or paragraph.  Give it a try and see what you think.  You can write several different versions then ask others to read and choose the version they like best or find the clearest for them.  A totally different way to get a response that unhooks the dread of what they might say.  People like to give their opinions so what you did was just ask for their opinion.  Nice shift away form the other reaction? If you have four versions, you might have four distinctly different groups of people who like the different versions.  People learn in different ways so they like to have the information presented to them in their way of learning.  That is ok too.  They will appreciate that you took time to write to them and you will have the satisfaction of communicating multiplied by four times.  A nice result too.
